Ornamental garden and indoor plants, fruits, berries, and vegetables all suffer from the negative effects of fungal diseases. They need not only treatment but also protection. Specialized fungicides are used for this purpose. To eliminate diseases without causing harm, strictly follow the instructions for using the fungicide "Fundazol."
What is included in the composition and dosage form
Fundazol is produced in the form of a wettable powder in packages of 15, 30 and 100 grams, has almost no odor, poorly or almost insoluble in water and organic solvents.
The product contains 500 grams of benomyl or Fundazol per kilogram. This is the product's main active ingredient. Its main characteristic is that it is a systemic and contact pesticide capable of affecting not only fungi but also some bacterial plant diseases. Since Fundazol is toxic to humans, it is advisable to have activated charcoal tablets on hand to detoxify the product.
Mechanism of operation
The pesticide Fundazol interferes with the reproduction of pathogenic fungal cells by inhibiting active nuclear division. As a result, the pathogen is unable to reproduce and dies.
The product spreads exclusively acropetally, that is, from the roots up the canopy, so it is most effective when applied to the soil beneath the roots. When sprayed, the effect is felt in the areas of the green foliage where the solution drops fall.
It works very quickly – the effect appears within three days after application and lasts for a week.
Purpose
The drug "Fundazol" is used against pathogens of the main fungal diseases:
- Molds on seeds and grains.
- Gray and other rot.
- Common and snowy pine needles.
- Infectious lodging of coniferous seedlings.
- Spotting.
- Fusarium and other wilts.
- Fundazol is most often used against powdery mildew on various plants, from ornamental to garden ones.
The product can be used to treat indoor plants, provided there are no children or pets in the room, and the user has no respiratory diseases or allergies. Personal protective equipment is required.
A unique feature of Fundazol is its ability to target both adults and eggs of a dangerous pest—spider mites—indicating its ability to act as an acaricide, at least a targeted one. It is also believed that Fundazol has a positive effect on plants infected not only with fungi but also with bacteria.
How to make a working mixture
The product must be diluted immediately before use in a specially designed container. First, dilute the powder in a small amount of water, gradually adding liquid to the required volume. It is recommended to dilute the fungicide outdoors or in a well-ventilated area, using personal protective equipment.
To avoid making mistakes in the proportions, you need to read the instructions for the pesticide, or if you don’t have them, download them from the Internet.
Flow calculation and instructions for use
The application rate of Fundazol is 10-15 grams per liter of water. The frequency of treatments ranges from 1 to 5, depending on the plant and the severity of the disease. Seeds are treated immediately before sowing or one month before planting. Plants are sprayed during the growing season, with the waiting period before harvesting being 25-30 days.
For orchids and roses
If powdery mildew or other fungal infections are detected on houseplants, they should be treated with a 0.1% solution of Fundazol. Since there is a risk of poisoning at home, the room should be well ventilated and safety precautions should be followed. There is no waiting period for flowers, as they are not edible. Roses affected by powdery mildew can be treated 3-4 times during the growing season.
For seed treatment
Planting material is treated by spraying or immersing in a solution. For large seeds, tubers, and bulbs, immersion in a solution of 10 grams of powder per 2 liters of water for 3 hours is suitable. For garlic, use a more concentrated solution of 10 grams of "Fundazol" per half liter of water and soak the planting material for 24 hours.
Potato tubers and small seeds are sprayed with a solution of 10 grams of powder per 0.5 liters of water.
For fruit trees and berry crops
Fundazol is often used in gardening to combat powdery mildew and various rots, as well as fusarium wilt. For grapes, apply 15 grams of the product per 5 liters of water per 100 square meters throughout the growing season. Seedlings and mature fruit plants are sprayed preventatively before flowering and after harvest with a solution of 20 grams of powder per 5 liters of water. Berry crops can also be sprayed, but root watering is more effective.
When spraying on a fruiting plant, it is necessary to observe a period of 25-30 days before harvesting.
For vegetable crops
To combat clubroot, cabbage plants should be watered once at the root during planting. For cucumbers prone to powdery mildew, another method is spraying, which should be completed a month before harvest. This should be done twice.
The same treatment is used for tomatoes and other plants affected by fusarium wilt and rot. The treatment is repeated three times. The dosage is 8-10 grams per five-liter container.
How toxic is it and what are the safety precautions?
Fundazol's toxicity varies among different living creatures. It is dangerous for fish and should be used strictly outside the fish protection zone of the water body. The fungicide is unlikely to harm bees and other insects, as it is low-risk for them. However, it is necessary to treat crops during hours when bees are not flying—early morning and late evening.
Fundazol is highly toxic to humans, and the danger lies not only in ingestion but also in inhalation and skin contact. Therefore, anyone working with the product must follow safety precautions:
- Use a respirator, safety glasses and gloves.
- During treatment, do not eat, drink, talk or smoke.
- Avoid contact of the drug with skin, mucous membranes and eyes.
- After work, wash your face with soap and wash your hands.
- It is better to dilute Fundazol outdoors rather than indoors.
If the fungicide comes into contact with your skin, rinse it off with running water as soon as possible. Do the same if it gets into your eyes.
What to do in case of poisoning
If the drug is swallowed, immediate action is required:
- Drink clean water, at least 3-4 glasses.
- Induce profuse vomiting.
- Take several tablets of activated charcoal (based on your own body weight).
- Seek medical attention.
If the poisoned person's condition is alarming or worsens after measures have been taken, it is necessary to call an ambulance immediately.
Is compatibility possible?
The fungicide "Fundazol" can be mixed with various plant fertilizers and treatments. However, it is important to ensure that the fertilizer or pesticide is not alkaline and does not contain lime.
How and how long can it be stored?
Fundazol has a shelf life of 48 months. Store in a location protected from high temperatures and direct sunlight, out of the reach of unauthorized persons, especially children. Since this medication can be dangerous if swallowed, keep it out of the reach of pets and farm animals and do not store it with food, beverages, medications, or animal feed.
Analogues
If you are unable to obtain Fundazol, you can replace it with drugs containing a similar active ingredient – benomyl or fundazol – or use analogous substitutes that have a similar effect, that is, they prevent the division of the pathogen’s nucleus and lead to its destruction.
Most often, it is recommended to replace Fundazol with the following drugs:
- Topsin M. This medication is effective against the same fungal infections as Fundazol and has similar efficacy.
- Ferazim.
- "Derosal".
- "Vitaros" and many others.
Of the biologically active fungicides, Fitosporin M is recommended. It is suitable for treating indoor plants and has a gentle, delicate effect that does not affect the well-being of people or pets.
