Orange and chokeberry jam truly contains many beneficial substances. These include vitamins PP, B, C, and A, calcium, magnesium, iron, and phosphorus. Our goal is to preserve these essential compounds during the cooking process. Otherwise, you'll end up with a sweet syrupy mess of berries—no benefit, no harm. So, let's learn how to make jam properly, using the best recipes.
Peculiarities of preparing orange and chokeberry jam
Mixing resinous black rowan and bright, sunny orange together in one bottle is a good idea. The only difficulty is that the ingredients ripen at different times. Rowan berries ripen in late summer and early autumn, but they cannot be stored in the refrigerator for long. Oranges are available in stores all year round.

The berries need to be firm, free of blemishes and pest damage. Rowan berries have a naturally bitter, astringent flavor, so adding sugar and orange stabilizes it and softens it. And the jam, with its remarkable composition and characteristics, will be a worthy reward for those who aren't afraid to experiment.
Selecting and preparing berries and fruits
Preparing the ingredients for jam is not that difficult if you follow the following recommendations exactly:
- Harvested or purchased rowan berries should be carefully sorted. All debris, twigs, stems, and damaged berries should be discarded.
- Wash citrus fruits in warm water with a brush. Lightly peel off the outer layer of zest to remove any dirt. Remove stems and cut the fruit whole, skin and all. Remove any seeds.
Now you can take out the sugar and start cooking the dessert.

Sterilize the jars
This is one of the most important steps in jam making. The shelf life of the final product depends on how well the jars are sterilized and prepared. The easiest method is boiling them in water. You can also steam the clean jars with steam from a kettle.
Delicious jam recipes for the winter
The recipe chosen determines the cook's next steps. In any case, sugar, rowan berries, and orange are essential.
Traditional recipe with chokeberry and citrus
Chokeberries pair beautifully with citrus fruits. The only important rule is to use plenty of sugar. Use approximately 1.5 kilograms per kilogram of berries. First, sort the chokeberries, removing any leaves, stems, or rotten berries. Wash and brush the orange, cut it into pieces, and then puree it in a blender.

Remove the pits beforehand. An enameled (or stainless steel) bowl or a wide-bottomed saucepan will work well. Place the ingredients in the bowl and place over high heat. Don't forget to add the sugar. Gradually bring the mixture to a boil, stirring, and simmer for about half an hour. The dessert is ready; all that's left to do is divide it into jars and seal with lids.
