IN lunar calendar for planting tomatoes for 2025 Recommendations are given on the most favorable periods for gardening. The phases of the moon significantly influence the development and health of vegetation. Therefore, experienced gardeners follow the favorable and unfavorable days indicated in the calendar. Timely planting of seeds guarantees strong seedlings that will produce a bountiful and high-quality harvest.
The influence of lunar phases on the growth and yield of tomatoes
Each phase of the moon affects vegetation differently. There are four distinct phases of the moon:
- It begins at the new moon, when the moon is almost invisible in the sky. The convex side of the thin crescent is turned to the right.
- The second phase begins with the waxing, wide Moon and lasts until the full Moon, when a whole circle is visible in the sky.
- The next phase lasts from the full moon to the thin crescent, with the convex part pointing to the left.
- The last phase lasts from the crescent moon to the new moon, when the Moon becomes invisible.
The waxing moon phase begins after the new moon, and the waning moon phase begins after the full moon.
New moon
During the new moon, you should avoid any gardening work. Only picking dried leaves and shoots from tomato plants is allowed, and weeds may be removed from the garden bed.
Waxing Moon
The waxing moon period lasts approximately 9 days. During these days, plants experience upward sap movement, leading to active growth above ground. Abundant watering and seed planting are recommended.

Full moon
The full moon lasts about three days. The sap rushes into the plant. During these days, treating the bushes for pests and infections will be successful. The full moon also promotes good germination of planted seeds.
Waning Moon
The wane phase lasts about 11 days. During this period, root branches become vulnerable. Do not loosen the soil or replant the plants. Watering and applying micronutrients are permitted.
Features of landing in an open area
To plant tomatoes, choose a well-lit area. The soil should be fertile, loose, neutral, and well-aerated.

The best predecessors for tomatoes are carrots, onions, and cucumbers. Strawberries are a good companion. Avoid planting tomatoes in areas previously occupied by peppers, potatoes, or eggplants.
The soil for planting tomato plants begins to be prepared as early as October. All plant debris is removed from the area and the soil is dug to a depth of 32 cm. Fertilizers are then added: peat, humus, bird droppings, ammonium nitrate, and superphosphate.
In the spring, the prepared area is loosened, and a week later, beds are formed. They should be approximately 110 cm wide, with a distance of 75 cm between beds. Seedlings are planted when the soil warms to 16 degrees Celsius.
According to the lunar calendar, the best days to plant seedlings are April 5th-7th, 9th-11th, 19th, 20th, and 23rd-25th. In May, all days except the 15th and 29th are considered favorable.
The soil in the container where the seedlings are growing is thoroughly watered. This will make it easier to remove the seedlings without damaging the roots. Dig 13-cm-deep holes in the beds, water them, and add minerals.

Remove the seedling from its container by plucking the bottom row of leaves. Then place it in the prepared hole, spreading out the roots. Cover with soil and lightly compact. After planting, mulching is recommended. Straw, sawdust, and peat moss are suitable mulches.
Planting in a greenhouse
It is recommended to plant tomatoes in a greenhouse on May 18-19 or 31, or June 2-11. By this time, the air and soil will have warmed up sufficiently, and the plants will reach a height of 22 cm.
- The soil should be prepared. It should be light, fertile, and well-drained. In the fall, the topsoil should be replaced and dug over. In the spring, the soil should be loosened again and watered with a potassium permanganate solution two weeks before planting.
- The width of the beds is 90 cm, leaving a distance of 38 cm between rows.
- The optimal temperature for growing tomatoes in a greenhouse is 23 degrees Celsius (73 degrees Fahrenheit). If seedlings are planted too early, when nighttime temperatures still drop to -4 degrees Celsius (33 degrees Fahrenheit), they are highly likely to die.
- The interval between bushes is left at about 50 cm.

Immediately after planting, you need to mulch the soil and install a support for tying.
Favorable days for planting tomato seedlings according to the lunar calendar in 2025
To calculate favorable days for sowing seeds, you need to take into account the recommendations of the lunar calendar, climatic conditions, as well as the ripening time of the fruits of the selected variety. Early ripening tomatoes should be planted in the second ten days of March, while late varieties can be planted as early as February.
In February
For sowing tomato seeds for seedlings in the last month of winter, choose the 4th-5th, 9th, 13th, 27th.
In March
It is better to plant seeds during the waxing moon; at the beginning of spring, successful dates are March 4, 8, 13, 16 or 22.

In April
In April, good days to sow prepared tomato seeds are the 2nd, 7th, 12th, 19th and 27th.
Unfavorable period for planting
When planting, it is important to consider not only favorable periods, but also unfavorable days of the month:
- In the last month of winter, February 5, 10, 14 and 22 will be unlucky.
- It is not advisable to sow tomato seeds on March 10, 17 and 28.
- In April, the 4th-5th and 23rd days will be unfavorable.

Further care of seedlings according to the lunar calendar
Growing and further caring for tomato crops is recommended to be carried out according to the lunar calendar.
When to dive
Pricking out is the process of transplanting seedlings into a larger, preferably separate, container. The transplant is carried out carefully, along with the root ball. It is advisable to prune the plant during the waxing moon phase. It is not recommended to perform the procedure during the waning moon phase.
Another requirement is that the seedling must have two true leaves. If transplanted too early, the plant will have difficulty establishing itself in its new location, and its immunity will be weakened.

Good days for transplanting tomato seedlings are February 9, 12, and 14; March 6, 10, and 13; April 7-9; and May 4. A few hours before transplanting, water the seedlings with warm water. Dig a 6-cm-deep hole in a new, spacious container filled with soil. Cover the seedlings with soil up to the cotyledons.
Timing of fertilizer application
The first fertilizing is done 12 days after transplanting. Fertilizers are applied again 12 days later. Urea and superphosphate are used as fertilizers.
Good days for applying nutrients are: May 3-4, 18-22, 23-25, 30; June 1, 14-16, 17-22, 26-30; July 12-14, 21-23, 26-29; August 4, 6-7, 13, 21, 25, 30. You should avoid fertilizing the soil on May 6 and 8; June 3, 11, 25; July 2, 11; August 5, 18, 24.

Thinning of bushes
Fifteen days after transplanting the seedlings to their permanent location, pinching out the side shoots begins. This procedure is repeated every nine days until the final harvest. Pinching should not be done during the full moon.
According to the Lunar Calendar, bush shaping and side shoot removal are recommended on May 2-5, 16-20, 27-29; June 1, 12-15, 26-29; July 5-9, 11, 17, 24, 27. The procedures should be postponed on May 8, 9, 26; June 6, 23-24, and July 4.
Watering
Use only warm water for watering. Different plant growth stages require different amounts of water:
- Immediately after the first shoots emerge and before the first pair of leaves unfurls, water the soil as it dries, with extreme caution. Water between the rows.
- After picking, establish a regular irrigation regimen. The first watering after picking is done 8 days later. Usually, one watering per week is sufficient.

Tomatoes are watered as the soil dries out. Therefore, it is advisable to only indicate unfavorable days according to the lunar calendar for watering: May 7, 16, 27; June 3, 26, 30; July 3, 12, 22; August 5, 17, 24.
Treatment against diseases and pests
Good days for spraying tomato bushes against insect pests and infections are:
- in spring: May 4-5, 12, 22-23, 28;
- at the beginning of summer: June 3, 9, 20, 26;
- in midsummer: July 2, 6, 23, 28;
- at the end of summer: August 11, 14, 20-23, 26-29.
Preventative or curative treatment of tomato seedlings is carried out using ready-made chemicals or folk remedies. Products such as Bordeaux mixture, Oxychom, Profit, Fundazol, Fitoverm, and copper sulfate have proven effective.

Weeding tomatoes
When controlling weeds, it's also recommended to choose the most favorable days. This will ensure the procedure is effective, and weeds will remain in the garden for a long time:
- It is advisable to do weeding on May 20-23 and 27.
- The ideal time would be June 17, 20, 23, 26.
- In July, it is advisable to weed on the 20th, 24th, and 26th.
- You can do weeding on August 4, 10, 15, 23 and 28.
The procedure should be carried out while simultaneously loosening the soil. This promotes better penetration of heat, air, and nutrients to the roots.
