Description of the Vova Putin tomato, fruit characteristics, and cultivation features

Several years ago, Chelyabinsk breeder Nikolai Alexandrov developed a very interesting tomato variety—the Vova Putin tomato, a photo of which can be found below. The result was an excellent tomato that immediately earned high marks from experts. Its distinguishing feature is its unique fruits, which can grow up to 1 kg.

Characteristics of the variety

Vova Putin tomatoes are perfect for gardeners who appreciate large tomatoes and a bountiful harvest. However, these results can only be achieved with proper plant care.

It's important to note that this variety is indeterminate. Therefore, the stem has unlimited growth. This means the bushes can grow well over 1 m. They must be trained and supported.

For the Vova Putin variety, pinching out side shoots is essential. If excess branches are not removed, the tomatoes may be small. Experts recommend training the plant into one or two stems. This approach to cultivation has been shown to produce the best yields.

These tomatoes are considered versatile. They are suitable for both greenhouse and open-air cultivation. In southern regions, it's best to plant them in the open air, while in cooler summers, it's best to keep them indoors.

This variety is relatively new, but it has already become a favorite among Russian gardeners and homesteaders. Many buy it simply out of curiosity, as the tomato has a catchy name. However, according to the breeder himself, his variety is named not after the head of state, but rather after a childhood friend named Vova Putin.

Large tomato

Those who try planting these tomatoes once often return to this variety again. They have many positive qualities. The bushes are easy to care for, tolerate temperature fluctuations well, are disease-resistant, and produce an excellent harvest.

The most important thing a gardener should do is shape the plant and tie it up in time. To maximize the harvest, it's also worth fertilizing. For the Vova Putin variety, you can use universal mineral mixtures. Additionally, loosen the soil to oxygenate the roots.

Tomatoes are considered hardy, but it's still recommended to plant them from seedlings. Seeds should be sown at least 60 days before the intended planting date. Before transplanting seedlings, they must be hardened off. To do this, the boxes with seedlings are taken outside for a period of time over the course of 2 weeks, increasing the time each time.

Fruits of the variety

The description of the tomato variety is as follows:

  • The fruits look quite unusual; they can be flat and round or heart-shaped.
  • When ripe, tomatoes turn a deep red color.
  • On average, they weigh 400 g, but there have been record-breaking specimens that grew up to 1 kg.
  • The tomato pulp is juicy and fleshy.
  • Tomatoes are very tasty and sweet. They're ideal for summer salads. However, many home cooks also use them for winter preserves. The fruits are large and juicy, making them perfect for juice and sauces.

A cut tomato

These tomatoes have thick skins. They can be stored for quite a long time, but the key is to keep them in a cool place. These tomatoes are not well suited for long-distance transportation. This is a characteristic of the fruit.

Care Features

The Vova Putin variety is considered one of the most low-maintenance. However, the best yield can only be achieved with proper bush training. To do this, remove all side shoots, leaving only one or two main branches. This allows the plant to produce large fruits. With proper care, one bush can yield up to 4 kg of tomatoes.

Green tomatoes

The bushes are tall and require support. Avoid planting them too close together. Four to six plants per square meter is sufficient. The average yield per square meter is 18–20 kg. However, if the gardener is generous with fertilizer, they can get even more.

Reviews of tomatoes are mostly positive.

Last summer, I was able to evaluate the positive properties of the growth bioactivator on this new tomato variety. The variety itself attracted me with its almost perfect flavor; the tomatoes were fleshy and sweet. I was able to obtain a fairly abundant harvest with this particular variety. BioGrow, enough for food and winter storage. I'll stick with this variety because, in addition to its excellent taste, it responds well to growth activator and produces a good yield.
