Description of the giant-fruited tomato Zolotoy Bull and the variety's yield

The large-fruited Zolotoy Byk tomato was bred for regions with challenging farming conditions. It grows well in both the Moscow region and Siberia. Its excellent taste makes it especially popular among gardeners.

Characteristics of the variety

Golden Bull tomatoes form medium-height bushes (up to 1.5 m). Despite this, they require support, as the tomato stems are quite thin and bear a heavy load of fruit. They don't tend to spread out, producing a moderate number of side shoots. It's recommended to train the bush to 2-3 stems and remove the remaining shoots. This method of growing tomatoes allows for a larger yield.

The variety's catalog description indicates that the stem produces 4-6 fruit clusters, each bearing 5-6 fruits. Additional stems produce only 3-4 clusters. With an average fruit weight of 300-400 g, the total yield per bush reaches 9-10 kg. Individual tomatoes, the very first to form, can reach 600-800 g, and up to 1 kg in a greenhouse.

Tomatoes are resistant to temperature fluctuations and are rarely susceptible to fungal infections. To prevent possible infection by late blight or other fungi, it is recommended to remove the lower leaves. This improves ventilation and allows the tomatoes to receive more sunlight. As a result, the fruits ripen faster and do not rot, even if picked unripe.

Fruit characteristics

Giant tomatoes are heart-shaped, slightly flattened at the ends. The top of the tomatoes often has a round depression. The base of the fruit is ribbed. The last tomatoes to form on each cluster have a smoother surface and a rounded shape.

The skin of the Golden Bull tomato is golden-yellow. When ripe, it can take on an orange tint with blurred stripes of a darker shade. Unripe fruits have a green spot near the stem and a lemon-colored skin.

The flesh is meaty, with a pleasantly oily consistency. The seed chambers are numerous but small, located around the circumference of the fruit. The core is solid and occupies approximately 60% of the tomato. The flesh is yellow, with a few pink or red streaks.

Gardeners' reviews place great emphasis on the taste of Zolotoy Bull tomatoes. The main characteristics are sweetness and a fruity aroma. Comparing Zolotoy Bull with other yellow-fruited tomatoes, growers note that its sugar content is higher than that of the Medovy Spas variety.

Meaty, large-fruited, light-colored tomatoes are ideal for salads. When paired with red varieties, yellow tomatoes look picturesque. They are perfect for slicing or for making sophisticated and exotic vegetable appetizers. Meaty tomatoes make excellent sandwich slices.

Winter preserves should only include sliced Zolotoy Bull tomatoes, as the larger ones cannot be preserved whole. However, if desired, smaller tomatoes from the last few ovaries can be used for this purpose. Some lovers of exotic tomatoes even make tomato juice and sauces from yellow tomatoes. Despite their unusual color, these products are delicious and suitable for baby food.

How to grow a good harvest?

This early-ripening variety takes 110-115 days from germination to first harvest. It's recommended to sow for seedlings two months before the expected time of transplanting into the ground or greenhouse. Golden Bull seedlings tend to stretch, so it's best to transplant them into individual pots. This allows for more space between plants when their leaves begin to overlap and block light from neighboring plants.

If the tomatoes have stretched out, they need to be planted in furrows, laying the stems horizontally at a depth of about 20 cm. Leave 4-5 top leaves above the soil surface.

Position the tops of the seedlings facing north; this will allow the bushes to assume their normal position within 3-4 days. Additional roots will form on the buried stems, providing nourishment for all the buds.

To form a bush with 2 or 3 stems, leave a side shoot above one flower cluster on the main stem, and after the next inflorescence forms on it, retain another side shoot. The remaining shoots should be removed as the bush grows.

Green tomatoesTo ensure larger fruits on Golden Bull tomato bushes, the bushes need to be fed throughout the season according to the following schedule:

  • 1 week after planting, add a solution of nitroammophoska (1 tbsp. per 10 liters of water) at 0.5 liters per bush;
  • 15-20 days after this, add 1 tablespoon of superphosphate and 1 teaspoon of potassium nitrate (per 10 liters of water);
  • After 15 days, the same feeding is repeated.

If the care rules are followed, the gardener will be able to grow a good harvest.

    This variety does indeed have very large fruits, but large fruits tend to split when ripe. The main thing is that they are tasty and disease-resistant. I really liked this variety.
