Description of the high-yielding tomato variety Senor Tomato and growing rules

Those who have planted the Senor Tomato tomato have mixed opinions about the variety's merits. Some gardeners have negative reviews of Aelita seeds, noting their low germination rate. However, many appreciate the tomato's consumer qualities.

General characteristics of the variety

A relatively new tomato variety, Senor Pomodoro (also known as Signor Pomodoro) is an indeterminate plant. Due to the unusually tall main stem (up to 3 m), this variety is called a "vine" tomato. Lateral shoots, when formed into 2-3 stems, do not reach this height.

Tomatoes Senor

Each stem produces 5-7 complex, branched fruit clusters with numerous ovaries. The total number of fruits per cluster can reach 25. The size of the tomatoes per cluster varies: the first ovaries are larger, weighing up to 180-200 g, but the last tomatoes grow to only 80 g. The total yield is 20 kg per bush.

The drawback of this variety is that the fruits on each cluster ripen unevenly. However, if desired, you can pick some of the larger tomatoes unripe, at the technical maturity stage. This gives the remaining small ovaries a chance to gain some weight.

Fruit formation and growth occur throughout the season. The Signor Tomato variety is considered mid-season, and the first harvest can be obtained only 115-120 days after germination. To achieve the best yield from these tomatoes, it is recommended to grow them only in a greenhouse. This variety is not suitable for open ground, as in the temperate climate of Russia, the tomatoes will not have time to fully develop fruit clusters.

Fruit characteristics

The tomatoes are shaped like heart-shaped tomatoes. There is pronounced ribbing near the stem, but the rest of the surface is smooth and even. The fruit is slightly elongated, tapering sharply toward the tip. When ripe, the color is bright red.

The skin is tough and thin. Tomatoes can crack if watering is uneven and the soil in the greenhouse dries out too much. If watering is done regularly (every 4-5 days), this problem does not occur.

Ripening tomatoes

The flesh is uniformly and brightly colored. The fruit is multi-chambered and belongs to the fleshy tomato type. The consistency is juicy and tender, and the tomatoes contain a small number of seeds.

Tomatoes can be used for a variety of purposes: they're delicious in salads and appetizers, and they can be used as sandwich slices. Vegetable growers note their classic sweet and sour flavor and distinctive aroma.

The Signor Tomato variety is also suitable for winter preserves. Those who plant these tomatoes in their garden can select small fruits for pickling and salting. Larger tomatoes are suitable for processing into juice, sauces, and lecho.

How to grow a tomato vine?

Sow seeds of this mid-season variety 60-65 days before planting in the greenhouse. It's recommended to disinfect the soil before sowing (heat it in the oven or microwave, or soak it in a hot solution of potassium permanganate). Before sowing, soak the seeds in a warm, light pink solution of potassium permanganate for 30-40 minutes, then dry them on a napkin.

Seeds in a pack

Scatter the seeds over the surface of moist soil and cover with a layer of dry sand. Place the seeds no deeper than 0.5 cm. Cover the boxes with glass and place them in a warm place.

The soil temperature should be at least 25°C. Under these conditions, the seeds begin to germinate in 4-5 days. The glass is removed from the boxes, and the seedlings are nurtured until 2-3 true leaves appear. Watering is not necessary during this period, as the soil contains sufficient moisture.

Once grown, transplant the seedlings into individual pots or boxes, using a 7x7 cm pattern. Growing the seedlings then involves watering them with warm water with potassium permanganate (a slightly pink solution). To prevent tomato blackleg, maintain the soil temperature at least 16°C.

Planting tomatoes

One week after planting in their permanent location, Senor Tomato tomatoes are fed with a nitroammophoska solution (1 tablespoon per bucket of water). The nutrient solution is applied at a rate of 0.5 liters per plant.

When the bushes reach a height of about 20 cm, they should be tied to a trellis. The tie loop should be positioned under the base of a leaf, or if a single flower cluster has already appeared, then under it. At the same time, apply phosphorus-potassium fertilizer (according to the instructions). The next such feeding is carried out after 2 weeks. To obtain larger and more uniformly sized fruits, you need to remove some of the ovaries on the cluster.

Tomato sprouts

The Senor Tomato variety is resistant to fusarium and alternaria, which often attack greenhouse tomatoes. During sudden temperature fluctuations in an unheated greenhouse, it may be susceptible to late blight, but to a minor degree. To prevent the disease, it is recommended to remove some of the leaves in the lower third of the plant.
