Many people don't even realize that melon makes an excellent compote. In fact, some cooks even make this drink for the winter, enjoying its unique flavor during cold weather. Not only is compote an excellent thirst quencher, it's also considered beneficial for the body. Learn how to prepare it properly to enjoy the summer flavor all year round.
The intricacies of making compote for the winter
It's worth noting right away that the process of making compote from this fruit has its own subtleties, which we'll discuss below.
- Firstly, despite the fact that absolutely everything about this melon is beneficial, only the pulp is used for the drink. The seeds are removed from the clean fruit, and the plant itself is peeled.
- Secondly, to make a delicious compote, you should give preference to ripe and juicy fruits, but at the same time, they should not be soft.
- Third, the finished drink is poured into sterilized jars and sealed with metal lids, which are also boiled beforehand. This is crucial, as otherwise, the drink may not last all winter.
- Fourthly, you can make the drink more tasty by adding spices or some sour fruits.
Selecting and preparing melon
To ensure a delicious drink, carefully select the fruit. It's best to choose fruit that doesn't show any obvious signs of spoilage or decay. Avoid soft melons, as this could result in a mush. Choose berries that weigh up to one kilogram. If the fruit isn't fresh, the compote won't taste good.
Preparing the melon involves washing it, removing the rind, and halving it. Next, remove any seeds and cut the melon into pieces (approximately 2-3 centimeters).
How to make melon compote at home
Before you begin canning the drink, you need to select the appropriate container. Three-liter jars are ideal for this purpose. It's also worth considering the recipe. Besides melon, compote can be made with a variety of fruits and even spices, so everyone can choose the final drink to suit their taste.

A simple recipe for a 3-liter jar
We invite you to discover the simplest recipe for a melon drink. For the compote, you'll need:
- 1 liter of water;
- 1 kilogram of melon;
- 200 grams of sugar.
Preparation:
- The fruit is washed and cut into small pieces.
- The resulting pieces are transferred to any container and covered with sugar, after which everything is placed in the refrigerator for about 3.5 hours.
- Jars and lids are sterilized.
- The water is boiled and poured into a container with the infused melon.
- Place the container with the melon and water on the stove. Boil the melon for 4 minutes.
- The finished drink is poured into jars and sealed with lids.

If you follow all the preparation instructions, the melon compote is guaranteed to last until next summer.
Without sterilization
As for the recipe for making the drink without sterilization, it's largely similar to the one described above. The only difference is that there's no need to sterilize the jars. This compote is a bit easier to make, but it has a shorter shelf life.
With an apple
For this compote, select sweet apple varieties. The fruit is first washed and diced, then a syrup is prepared and poured over the fruit. The resulting mixture is simmered for 5 minutes, after which the melon is added.

With lemon
Lemon compote is prepared as follows:
- The fruit is peeled and cut into cubes.
- The lemon is cut into rings and placed on the stove.
- Add sugar and melon to the lemon. Bring the mixture to a boil and simmer for 1 minute.
- The lemon is pulled out.
- The blanks are placed in containers and filled with liquid.
- The banks are rolling up.

With gooseberries
This drink is prepared in the same way as all the previous ones, but gooseberries are added before rolling.
With watermelon
The watermelon is prepared in the same way as the melon (washed, peeled and seeded, and cut into pieces) and added to the syrup, boiling for 25 minutes.
With grapes
For this version, in addition to grapes and melon, you'll need lemon juice. Add the sugar, lemon juice, and bunches of grapes to boiling water. As soon as the bunches float to the surface, add the melon. Cook until the melon floats to the surface.

With orange
This compote is prepared in the same way as other drinks. The orange doesn't need to be removed before pouring into jars.
With peaches
First, as in all other examples, prepare the ingredients, after which you can begin making the syrup. Add sugar and citric acid to the liquid and simmer for 10 minutes. Pour the resulting syrup over the fruit for 5 hours, then simmer the liquid with the peaches and melon for another 5 minutes.
With spices
In this version, everything starts with preparing a simple sweet syrup. Next, blanch the melon. Briefly add a vanilla bean to the boiling liquid. Cinnamon, cloves, and lemon zest are placed in jars, and then the syrup is poured over everything.

With plum
This plum compote is no different from the previous ones. The only thing you need to stick to is the ingredients:
- Citric acid – 3 grams.
- Melon – 1 kilogram.
- Sugar – 1.4 kilograms.
- Plums – 500 grams.
- Water – 1.4 liters.
With citric acid
Many of the recipes above already included citric acid. It can be added to many drinks. The only thing to keep in mind is that it's added before the fruit is steeped in syrup.
With mint
For this compote, each jar requires one sprig (two) of mint, which is placed in the container before adding all the necessary ingredients.
How long and how to store compote
If all standards are observed, compote should be stored for no more than 1 year.
