Sea buckthorn compote is a wonderful way to preserve this healthy berry for the winter. It's not the most common winter drink. But that's a shame, as the berries are packed with virtually every vitamin and mineral known to man. They're rich in vitamins A, E, C, PP, and B vitamins, as well as microelements such as phosphorus, iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, and sodium. Moreover, preparing this healthy compote is very simple, following the step-by-step recipes below.
In terms of vitamin C content, sea buckthorn is considered one of the leaders among berries, second only to rose hips and red pepper.
Subtleties of cooking
Before preparing a healthy drink, you need to consider the following preparation features:
- Only ripe and firm berries picked in early September are suitable.
- The drink itself has a distinctive flavor and aroma that may not appeal to everyone. By adding a few berries and fruits to the compote, you can achieve an unrivaled taste.
- It is essential to use sterile jars and disinfected lids for preparation.
- For cooking syrup, choose enameled or stainless steel utensils, and wooden or ceramic spoons.
Aluminum containers are not suitable, as the metal oxidizes, releasing toxic elements.
- The drink can be prepared either with or without sterilization (for long-term storage).
