Description of the Anastasia tomato and cultivation of the hybrid variety

The Anastasia tomato is a hybrid variety characterized by early ripening fruit. Gardeners love tomato varieties that are resistant to diseases and sudden weather changes and capable of producing high yields in open ground or greenhouses.

The Anastasia variety (also known as Anastasia Ushakova, developed by domestic breeders in the late 1990s) meets all these characteristics.
Reviews from gardeners and summer residents indicate that tomatoes of this variety are excellent for canning and for preparing fresh salads and tomato juice. Below are the characteristics and description of the variety.

What is the Anastasia tomato?

Tomatoes can be harvested as early as 100 days after the seeds have been planted as seedlings. In greenhouses, tomatoes ripen slightly faster.

Among the main characteristics contained in summer residents' reviews are:

  • In open ground conditions, the bushes grow up to 0.7-0.9 m, so they need to be tied up so that they do not break under the weight of the fruit;
  • to increase the yield, pinching is carried out, although Anastasia tomatoes have a high yield even without this process;
  • During ripening, the fruits first turn green and then burgundy;
  • the weight of 1 fruit is 130-180 g;
  • usually up to 20 kg of tomatoes are harvested from 1 m²;
  • many clusters are formed on the bushes, on which several tomatoes ripen;
  • The fruits are plum-shaped and small in size.

When describing this variety, it's important to note that soil conditions don't affect yield. Even if the soil contains only small amounts of minerals and nutrients, the plants will still produce fruit. Anastasia tomatoes don't require any special care; regular watering is sufficient.

If the soil lacks moisture, the plants can cope with this problem on their own. Therefore, it's beneficial to grow this variety in regions with constant temperature and climate fluctuations.

How to grow tomatoes?

Seedlings are planted either in open ground or in a greenhouse, but before sowing, the seeds must be sown in individual containers. This is done in March or early April. According to gardeners, it's better to sow seeds in soil that have been pre-soaked in water. This will allow the seeds to swell and grow faster.

Soaking is done using paper towels soaked in water. Place the towels in a container, sprinkle the seeds on them, and wrap them for 20 hours. Only then can the seeds be planted in soil, which is best placed in small containers, pots, or boxes.

The depth of such containers should not exceed 10 cm. Seeds are sown in holes 1-2 cm deep, covered with soil, and watered. After this, the pots must be covered with film and placed in a warm room where the temperature is always stable (not less than +20 ºС).

As soon as the first shoots appear, it's recommended to move the pots to a balcony or windowsill, as these areas receive plenty of natural light. Avoid overwatering the seedlings; only mist the leaves and trunk when the soil is completely dry. Mist the soil as well.

Planting time for seedlings varies from region to region, depending on local temperature conditions. Planting typically occurs in the second half of May; a week beforehand, the soil and plot must be thoroughly prepared. A solution of copper sulfate or another fertilizer should be added to the soil.

Use 1 liter of fertilizer per square meter. Additionally, add mineral fertilizer or organic fertilizer, 4 kg of peat, humus, and sawdust. After digging the soil, level it with a rake, and then water it with hot water to disinfect the area.

The seedlings should be planted only to the roots; the bushes should stand upright. Leave enough space between plants. Leave 0.5-0.6 m between bushes. The seedlings are planted in two rows and immediately tied to stakes. This will prevent the bushes from breaking as they grow.

    This variety produces quite a good yield, with medium-sized tomatoes. I planted it for the first time this year, and I think I'll continue growing this particular tomato. I recommend using it for feeding. BioGrow.
