Characteristics of the Red Pearl tomato and cultivation techniques

The Red Pearl tomato is a tiny variety adapted to growing in southern climates. The fruits ripen in clusters, have a rich, sweet flavor, and resemble pearls in shape and appearance. This variety impresses with its decorative appearance during flowering and harvest.

Advantages of a hybrid

Red Pearl tomatoes are determinate. Their low-growing bushes are considered ideal for growing in garden plots and greenhouses.

The hybrid's main advantage is that it can be grown indoors on a windowsill or balcony, where it can watch the tiny, bead-like fruits form. The plants don't require side shoots; they reach a height of 35 cm, with each shoot ending in a cluster of fruits.

The hybrid is characterized by resistance to nightshade diseases. The tomatoes are characterized by early maturity, with 85-95 days from sprouting to fruiting.

The tomatoes are round, glossy, and intensely red. The diameter of the fruit is 3 cm, and when cut horizontally, two seed chambers are visible.

The tomatoes weigh 20-40 grams, with a dry matter content of 6%. One Red Pearl hybrid bush can yield 1.5 kg of tomatoes, with up to 20 fruits ripening on a single branch. Considering that the recommended planting pattern allows for four bushes per square meter, this yields 6 kg of fruit.

Tomatoes are undemanding in terms of lighting conditions and tolerate temperature fluctuations well. They cannot be stored for long periods of time and are not suitable for long-distance transportation.

The fruits are used fresh and for canning. These small red tomatoes complement any dish or platter, and their balanced acidity and sugar balance make them a delicious juice.

Agricultural technology of cultivation

Tomatoes can be grown in a regular flowerpot thanks to their shallow root system. If the plant forms a large bush, you can trim off excess branches. Removing leaves reduces the plant's yield.

Compact, low-growing bushes do not require staking, but you need to carefully monitor the branches, which can become deformed under the weight of the fruit.

It follows that after planting in the ground during the flowering period, it is necessary to install spacers under the tomato brushes. To grow tomatoes on a balcony, you will need 3 liters of soil mixture per plant.

The Red Pearl variety is susceptible to biological pests. The plant can be attacked by melon aphids. Standard plant protection products can be used to control these insects. Mole crickets and slugs can be controlled by loosening the soil.

You can repel biological pests with a homemade solution. Mix 1 tablespoon of ground pepper or mustard per 10 liters of water and apply this mixture to the bushes.

Concern may arise from improper cultivation techniques. For normal development, the crop requires access to fresh air.

Depending on the planting location, ventilate the greenhouse or balcony. A lack of moisture negatively impacts the taste of the fruit. If there is no light at all, using an ultraviolet lamp is recommended.
