The Vernisage tomato is a variety bred by R.N. Dukhov in Ukraine. This variety is mid-early, and the bush is tall. Ripening begins just 115-120 days after germination. The leaves are spreading, medium-sized, and bright green. The cluster of this tomato is simple and compact, producing only 5-7 fruits.
What is the Vernissage tomato?
Characteristics of tomatoes:
- The Vernissage tomato fruit is egg-shaped, smooth to the touch, and comes in a variety of colors.
- Varieties of the variety: tomato Vernissage yellow, Vernissage black and Vernissage pink.
- Most Russian buyers prefer to grow pink-colored fruit varieties in their gardens.
- A more unusual color for us is black. The black Vernissage tomato isn't very popular, but some buyers, eager to experiment, plant this variety. But they're right to do so without risking anything, as it's as harmless and healthy as any other tomato in its family.
- The fruit weight is average; for tomatoes growing in central Russia it is 150 g.
- The taste is very pleasant.

Sowing should be done in mid-March, and planting should be done in mid-May, but only under plastic, and in open ground in early June. Pricking out, or pruning the upper leaves of the plant, is necessary to ensure that all minerals and nutrients reach the fruit rather than the bush. This should be done during the first or second true leaf stage. Cultivation is possible not only in open ground but also in greenhouses.
The following positive characteristics are worth noting: excellent resistance to many harmful plant diseases and to various climatic conditions. The fruit has a good taste and an unusual color: pink with yellow stripes or yellow with pink stripes.

The downsides include the difficult-to-peel skin of the fruit, making the plant susceptible to late blight and Colorado potato beetle attacks. Late blight can be controlled with Tattu. Any insecticide can be used to control the Colorado potato beetle.

How to grow tomatoes?
Growing and caring for Vernissage tomatoes requires special attention. Seeds should be planted and germinated indoors on windowsills or in warm greenhouses. The depth of planting seeds should not exceed 2 cm. Before planting seedlings in open ground, add 1 tablespoon of wood ash to the hole.

Don't forget to water your tomatoes. The plant doesn't require a lot of watering. Watering should be done once a week, right at the roots, which is more favorable for growth. Also, during the growing season, check the bushes and fruits for harmful diseases.
Reviews from gardeners who have grown this variety are always positive. The fruits can be processed in several ways. The first is canning. They can be preserved with cucumbers or on their own. They can also be eaten fresh, as they have a rich flavor.

Vernissage tomatoes have both pros and cons. However, the pros far outweigh the cons. And the cons are quite minor, such as the thick skin. Considering the advantages and disadvantages, it's safe to say this tomato variety is very good.
The fruits are medium-sized, ripen early, and are virtually immune to many common plant diseases. They're a good choice for those with a small garden or small plot.
