Biotlin instructions for use, composition, dosage, and analogues

Modern methods of controlling fruit and berry pests include the use of biological products that can effectively and quickly solve the problem. When used strictly according to the instructions, the insecticide Biotlin kills aphids and other sucking insects without causing toxic effects on plants or humans.

What is included in the composition and mechanism of action

The Biotlin solution contains a chemical compound of the neonicotinoid class – imidacloprid, at a concentration of 200 grams per 1 liter of liquid medium. This neurotoxin has a systemic and less pronounced contact effect, therefore affecting mature plants more severely. Imidacloprid penetrates the plant translaminarly through the above-ground parts and spreads rapidly through its vascular system.

A small amount of the compound penetrates the fruit. Most of the insecticide accumulates in the leaf blades, from where it enters the digestive system of the plant-sap-feeding parasites. By inhibiting the transmission of nerve impulses, Biotlin blocks the innervation of the insects' muscle tissue, leading to paralysis and death. The effect is observed within the first hours after treatment, reaching its peak within 3-5 days. The protective effect lasts for at least 14 days.

This period is sufficient to neutralize pests formed from surviving eggs and larvae, and to prevent re-contamination from neighboring plantings.

What is it intended for?

With its pronounced systemic action, Biotlin destroys sucking insect pests, including colonies found in hard-to-reach areas (like the back of leaves). The insecticide is used to control the following types of pests:

  • aphid;
  • whitefly;
  • apple blossom weevil;
  • leafhoppers;
  • thrips.

Biotlin instructions for use

Activity has been observed against weevils, scale insects, Colorado potato beetles, potato ladybugs, onion flies, and wireworms.

Biotlin is intended for foliar application only, applied to the above-ground parts of the plant, either before or after flowering. It is recommended for tomatoes and cucumbers grown in greenhouses.

Pros and cons

Thanks to its long-lasting systemic action, Biotlin offers a radical solution to pest problems. However, imidacloprid, a toxic substance, is not selective and has a number of significant limitations.

biotlin instructions

Pros and cons
powerful and rapid insecticidal action;
long-lasting effect (at least 2 weeks);
lack of resistance in insects;
maintaining properties under adverse weather conditions.
non-selectivity of action (the active component is also dangerous for other insects, including bees);
the need to strictly adhere to processing rules, prevent the product from penetrating into the soil and use during the flowering period.

Possible compatibility

It is not recommended to use Biotlin together with other medications.

Instructions for use

The insecticide is intended for spraying plants. The concentrate is first dissolved in water. To do this, pour a third of the total volume of water into the working container, add a precisely measured amount of insecticide, stir, and add the remaining water.

For all types of crops, a single treatment is sufficient.

Security measures

Biotlin is low-hazard to humans (hazard class 3), but highly toxic to pollinating insects (hazard class 1 for bees). Its use requires caution and adherence to safety precautions to ensure environmental and human safety.

When processing, the following rules must be observed:

  • use protective clothing and equipment that prevents the composition from entering the respiratory system, digestive system, and mucous membranes;
  • maintain hygiene during and after the procedure;
  • check the serviceability of the sprayer in advance using water;
  • Avoid contact of children, pregnant women and animals with the drug.

The safe distance from the treatment area to the beekeeping farm is 5 kilometers.

What to do in case of poisoning

At the first sign of poisoning, stop work immediately, remove protective clothing, and seek medical attention. First aid includes:

  • If the composition comes into contact with work clothes, rinse the contact areas with water;
  • in case of contact with skin, remove the composition with a cotton or cloth swab, wash with soapy water;
  • If it gets on the mucous membrane of the eye, rinse with clean water;
  • If it gets into the digestive tract, rinse the mouth and drink plenty of fluids using enterosorbents (activated carbon at a rate of 1 gram per 1 kilogram of body weight), followed by inducing vomiting.

How long is it good for and how to store it properly?

"Biotlin" should be stored at temperatures from -25°C to +35°C in a hermetically sealed container, away from household items, food, and fire sources, and out of reach of children and animals.

Farmers' reviews

Most farmers and gardeners note that Biotlin is an effective and easy-to-use product.

Ekaterina, Yekaterinburg: "Biotlin was recommended for treating currants and viburnums against aphids. The ampoule is easy to open, but the strong odor of the product is immediately noticeable, so it's best to put on a respirator before preparing the solution. It was extremely effective—the aphids died within a couple of days."

Natalia, Voronezh: "I purchased Biotlin to combat aphids, which were rapidly destroying my young apple trees. The odor was tolerable, and I treated the apple trees without any difficulty. I was pleased with the results – the aphids were gone by the second day. An effective product at an affordable price."

Olga, Sarapul: "I bought Biotlin to get rid of greenhouse whiteflies. I had aphids on the crops too, but the whitefly situation seemed catastrophic. The 9-milliliter bottle is easy to use, and preparing the solution was straightforward. The aphids were killed immediately, but the whiteflies were only partially killed, so I had to repeat the treatment. This product is ideal for aphid control."
