Description of the Easter Egg tomato, its characteristics, and growing guidelines

The Easter Egg tomato, described as a cocktail tomato, produces an excellent harvest in any soil type. The fruits remain uniform in size throughout the season and do not become smaller, making this variety popular among vegetable growers.

Advantages of the variety

These tomatoes are considered mid-early in terms of ripening time, with 100-110 days required from seed germination to fruit ripening. This variety is suitable for growing in open ground, plastic shelters, or greenhouses.

During the growing season, tall bushes form with abundant foliage and additional stems 1.6–1.7 m long. The plant requires support and side shoots. When shaping the bush, two shoots are left.

As can be seen in the photo, clusters of inflorescences form on the stems, each bearing 5-6 ripening fruits. When fully ripe, the tomato resembles an Easter egg in appearance. The oval fruits are red with yellow stripes. The thick skin is resistant to cracking during growth and under the influence of weather conditions (high humidity, drought).

Red tomatoes

At the end of the long fruiting period, ripening tomatoes may be smaller in size, but they have an intensely sweet flavor. The fruits remain firmly attached to the vine, and their ripening is unaffected by weather conditions.

The characteristics and description of the variety are related to the oval shape and color:

  • The weight of ripe small fruits reaches 70-80 g.
  • Tomatoes have a strong aroma.
  • Ripe tomatoes are sweet in taste, with a slight sour note.
  • In cooking, tomatoes are eaten fresh as a snack, used to decorate holiday tables, and for canning.

Agricultural technology of cultivation

The seeds are planted 1.5 to 2 months before the expected time of transplanting the plant to its permanent location. Before planting in pots with soil, the seeds are treated with an aqueous solution of potassium permanganate.

Sow at a depth of 1.5 cm, mist the soil with water, and cover the pots with plastic wrap until the seeds germinate. Plants are pricked out when they have developed two true leaves.

Transferring the planting material to its permanent location is done after the plants have hardened off for one week. To do this, the seedlings are exposed to fresh air, gradually increasing the time from 20 minutes to 2 hours.

Planting tomatoes

Before planting, prepare holes in the ground and add organic fertilizer. Primary care after transplanting involves regular watering, staking, and removing excess stems.

Loosening the soil around the plant can increase crop yield. This regulates the moisture and air balance around the root system, which positively impacts plant development.

It is recommended to mulch the soil using wilted grass or black non-woven fiber, and periodically apply complex fertilizers according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

Gardeners' opinions

Breeders are constantly improving the appearance and flavor of cocktail tomato varieties. Feedback from vegetable growers indicates their interest in the new varieties and the crop's growing popularity:

Alexander Sidorov, 56 years old, Balashikha:

"I grew the Easter Eggs variety from seed and planted the seedlings in a greenhouse. I'm particularly pleased with the bush's high productivity and the beautiful, fragrant fruits, shaped like eggs. The tomatoes are small, with juicy, raspberry-colored flesh and an unusually sweet taste. I've used them fresh and for canning."

Orange tomatoes

Nina Samoilova, 47 years old, Krasnodar:

"A friend recommended Easter Egg tomatoes. I grew tomato plants in my garden without any special cover. The plants grew very strong, and I had to remove excess branches. The fruits are stunningly colored, with yellow stripes on a red background. The flesh is very juicy and delicate. I was pleased with the quantity and quality of the fruit."

Even though the variety doesn't shrink, don't rely on varietal characteristics alone. Consider using a growth stimulant. Unfortunately, it's unavoidable. I was pleased with the effect. BioGrow.
