Characteristics and description of the Negritenok tomato, cultivation techniques for the variety

Among black-fruited varieties, the Negritenok tomato is popular due to its taste, ease of cultivation, and exotic appearance.

Black tomato

Some gardeners prefer to grow black tomatoes in their gardens. They contain a large amount of sugar, minerals, starch, vitamin B, carotene, and folate. The anthocyanin content gives tomatoes their dark color.

Black tomatoes

The Negritenok tomato has a brown tint and belongs to the black-fruited tomato group. This exotic vegetable is grown using standard tomato cultivation techniques. Following the plant care recommendations can increase the yield.

Description of the variety

The growing season from seedling planting to fruiting for the Negritenok variety is 83-88 days. Fruit characteristics:

  • The fruits of mid-season tomatoes are ribbed, weighing 140-160 g.
  • They ripen 110-115 days after planting the seedlings.
  • Ripe tomatoes acquire a chocolate color.

The advantage of this variety is its resistance to solanaceous diseases (tobacco mosaic, cladosporiosis). The tomato leaves are corrugated and dark green.

The first inflorescence appears at the 9th to 12th leaf level, and subsequent clusters can form every three leaves. During the growing season, the plant grows to 1.5–2 m, with seeds weighing 0.1 g. The Negritenok variety can be grown outdoors and in unheated greenhouses.

Growing 3-4 plants per square meter reduces crop yield. Black-fruited tomatoes are characterized by juicy, dense flesh with a distinct sweet and sour flavor.

In cooking, Negritenok tomatoes are used to make pastes, juices, and as an ingredient in salads and various dishes. Unripe tomatoes are harvested and ripened at home, retaining their flavor for up to 1.5 months.

Recommendations from gardeners

Everyone who has planted the Negritenok variety notes its advantages. The characteristics and description of this exotic variety make it stand out among other tomato varieties. Professional gardeners recommend planting the low-growing seedlings 2-3 cm deeper than they grew in the nursery.

Elongated plants should be planted at an angle, with the stems covered with soil. This placement allows the plant to gain additional root support.

To grow seedlings, create a soil mixture with the addition of complex fertilizers. Seeds treated with a potassium permanganate solution are planted 60-65 days before transplanting into a greenhouse or open ground.

Tomato seedlings

Special temperature and lighting conditions are created for the seedlings. Once the first shoots emerge, the temperature is lowered from 24°C to 12–15°C during the day and 8–10°C at night. Water the seedlings moderately, and fertilize them every 2–3 weeks.

Positive reviews from gardeners indicate excellent taste, ease of care, and high yields.

Natalia Fedorova, 49, Adler: "Knowing about my hobby, a friend gave me a packet of Negritenok seeds. I decided to sow this exotic plant in a transparent cake container. I filled the container with growing medium, placed the seeds on top, spaced them apart, and lightly covered them with soil.

I made holes in the top of the box with a needle and placed it in the kitchen, in a well-lit area. I sprayed it with water periodically, and when the seedlings began to sprout, I had to open the box a little.

Ripe tomato

I decided to reduce watering to slow the seedlings' growth, and periodically moved them to a cooler spot to harden them off. After replanting the plants into individual pots, I resumed watering. After the first flower stalks appeared, fruit began to form.

Then the next clusters began to form. The fruits ripened in stages: first at the bottom, then along the next peduncle. If the growing season had coincided with the opportunity to plant outdoors, the yield per bush could have been significantly higher than it actually was."

The tomatoes are truly wonderful. I grew them in a plastic greenhouse with drip irrigation. I water them daily with 1.2 liters of water. The height of a robust bush is 2 meters or more. The tomatoes weigh from 200-300 grams to 500-600 grams. There are 4 to 6 tomatoes per cluster. They are very sensitive to morning dew, causing cracks to form near the stem. Regular intensive ventilation is essential.
