Description of the Irish Liqueur tomato, cultivation and care

What is Tomato Irish Liqueur?

The variety's description and characteristics are as follows. The plant is indeterminate and grows up to 1.5 m in height. The variety was bred exclusively for indoor planting; in open ground, tomatoes can be planted under plastic, provided your region experiences hot, long summers.

The fruits are round, ribbed, and slightly flattened at the top and bottom. Ripening tomatoes are dark green, while ripe ones have yellow stripes. The fruits are quite large, weighing between 250 and 400 grams. The interior is fleshy and juicy, containing a large amount of sugar. The fruits contain up to six seed chambers. The seeds are small. The thick skin prevents the tomato from cracking.

If you want to harvest your own tomato seeds, select the healthiest-looking tomato from the first batch of ripe tomatoes and cut it in half. Using a teaspoon, scoop out the seeds and pulp from the chambers and place them in a fine-mesh sieve. Rinse the pulp under running water until it separates from the seeds. Dry the seeds on a napkin and place them in a paper bag, labeling it with the date and variety name.

Features of plant care

The first cluster appears on the bush after 8-9 leaves. Each cluster can produce 3 to 6 ripe tomatoes. To ensure a bountiful harvest, the plant requires proper care. The bushes must be tied up, and the sooner this is done, the more vigorous the plant will grow.

Although this variety has a small number of leaves, the lower ones should be removed. This should be done after the first inflorescence has formed.

Watch carefully for side shoots. Don't allow them to grow. The plant will expend a lot of energy and nutrients developing these shoots, resulting in a meager harvest and tasteless tomatoes. If done correctly, you can harvest up to 5 kg from a single bush.

High humidity can kill tomatoes. Ensure adequate ventilation and water tomatoes sparingly. Water only the roots; avoid getting water on the leaves. Many gardeners use drip irrigation.

The best time to plant seeds is the second ten days of March. Select healthy seeds that are sure to germinate. The soil temperature during planting should be no less than +25ºС, so the container with planted seeds should be kept close to heating devices.

After germination, the air temperature should not exceed 18ºC. To ensure the seedlings grow strong and healthy, they need sufficient light. If natural light is insufficient, consider artificial lighting.

The plant should be fed with a special fertilizer every two weeks. After planting, weed the bushes regularly. Loosening the soil has a beneficial effect on the root system.
