Description of the Kibitz hybrid tomato and how to grow seedlings yourself

The Kibitz tomato, whose description includes an early ripening period, has recently appeared on the market. It is grown in open ground and greenhouses. After harvesting, Kibitz tomatoes can be stored in a cool cellar for up to 25-30 days. The storage temperature should not exceed 10°C with a humidity of approximately 80%. It is best not to refrigerate the berries, as they will completely lose their flavor. This hybrid is suitable for freezing or canning whole fruits. This tomato variety can be transported over long distances.

Some technical data

The characteristics and description of the variety are as follows:

  1. After planting seeds in the ground, it takes 100-110 days for seedlings to produce fruit. Some gardeners manage to harvest 7-10 days earlier.
  2. The height of the plant's bushes ranges from 60 to 80 cm. The leaves on them are medium-sized, colored in dark shades of green.
  3. 8-10 berries grow on a brush.
  4. The characteristics and description of the fruit indicate that the berries are small. The tomatoes weigh 50-60 g and are shaped like an elongated oval.
  5. The berries are bright red. There is no green spot near the stem. The flesh contains few seed chambers (2-3 locules) and few seeds.

Reviews from farmers who have grown this tomato indicate that the hybrid yields 3-3.5 kg of berries per bush. A full description of the variety can be found in specialized agricultural reference books and seed company catalogs.

Growing the hybrid outdoors is recommended in southern Russia. To harvest it, gardeners living in temperate climates will need an unheated plastic greenhouse.

Kibitz tomatoes

In Siberia and the Far North, this variety can only be grown in well-heated greenhouses or hotbeds. Seedlings can be grown outdoors, but to speed up the growth process, breeders recommend growing them in greenhouses.

How to grow seedlings yourself?

Seeds are sown in the ground in mid-March if the gardener decides to plant the resulting bushes in a greenhouse. If the farmer doesn't have a greenhouse, seeds for seedlings are sown in the first ten days or mid-April.

Before planting, treat the seeds with potassium permanganate. Spray the soil in the garden bed with a weak solution of potassium permanganate. After sprouts appear (in 5-8 days) and two or three leaves appear, transplant the plants. Once the seedlings have grown, they need to be transplanted to their permanent location. If you have a greenhouse, this should be done in mid-May, and in open ground, the bushes are planted in early June.

Tomato seedlings

Dig 8-cm-deep holes in the beds and add compost mixed with complex fertilizer and sand. After planting, mulch the soil around the bushes. It's best to plant tomatoes in beds previously occupied by cucumbers or parsley. Tomatoes also thrive in areas previously occupied by cauliflower or carrots.

The planting pattern is 0.5 x 0.5 or 0.3 x 0.5 m. There is no need to tie the bushes or remove side shoots. Sometimes, when a large number of fruits are developing, it may be necessary to support the hybrid's branches.

Hybrid care and pest control

Plants should be watered regularly, approximately 2-3 times a week. Watering should be done every other day after loosening the soil. Use warm water. Watering should be done before sunset or sunrise.

Loosening the soil allows oxygen to reach the tomato roots more quickly. This improves the hybrid's immunity, allowing the plants to withstand the onslaught of fungal or bacterial infections.

Tied tomatoes

Weeding the beds is recommended once every two weeks. This is a preventative measure, as nightshade crops are susceptible to fungal infections and late blight from weeds.

Weeding helps get rid of pests that infest the tomato's root system. Although Kibitz is resistant to blossom-end and root rot and is resistant to late blight, it's important to spray the tomato plants with medicinal products for prevention.

Tomatoes are fertilized 2-3 times during the growing season. Initially, more nitrogen fertilizer is used as the bushes gain foliage. After the first fruit appears, the hybrid is fed with potassium-rich mixtures and organic fertilizers. Once fruit appears, tomatoes should receive complex mixtures containing phosphorus, potassium, and nitrogen.

Kibitz tomatoesSpider mites, nematodes, and caterpillars of various insects may appear and multiply on the bushes. They are destroyed with industrially produced chemicals. If these are unavailable, a solution of onion and garlic peels can be used. Collect 0.2 kg of the ingredients, add 1 liter of boiled water, and let it steep. Then, apply the infusion to the bushes where the pests are found.
