Weeds in a garden have a detrimental effect on the growth and development of crops. Mechanical soil cultivation is possible, but it is time-consuming and labor-intensive. Therefore, gardeners and vegetable growers use auxiliary products that effectively and quickly remove weeds. One innovative product is the non-selective herbicide "Shkval," which has shown positive results in weed control.
Composition and existing forms of release
The pesticide is used on non-agricultural sites. It is sold as a water-soluble concentrate in 5- and 10-liter polyethylene containers. The main ingredient of the pesticide is imazapyr, at a concentration of 250 grams per liter.
Pros and cons
During the studies, no plant resistance or insensitivity to the chemical was detected.
How it works and what it is used for
"Shkval" works systemically, penetrating the leaves and roots of weeds. It actively migrates within, accumulating at growth points. The active ingredient slows the enzymatic reaction of amino acids responsible for protein synthesis and cell growth. As a result, growth is halted, and the weeds die.

Calculation of consumption
The area is treated once per season; repeat treatments are not necessary. To kill woody vegetation, the application rate is doubled. The average herbicide application rate is shown in the table:
| Herbicide application rate, l/ha | Harmful object | Time and method of processing |
| 2.0-2.5 | Ambrosia, bitterweed, all types of weeds | Spraying at the initial stages of weed development |
| 2.0-5.0 | Herbaceous, woody vegetation | Spraying during the growing season |
The consumption of working fluid ranges from 100 to 300 liters per 1 hectare of area.
How to prepare a working mixture?
Before opening the concentrate, shake the contents thoroughly in the original container. Fill the container 1/3 full with water, add the required amount of product, and stir. Add water to the required level while stirring.

It's important to prepare the mixture before use, as the prepared solution is effective for 6 hours. The working solution is prepared in special areas, which are then disinfected.
Instructions for use
When preparing the solution, strictly adhere to the dosage. When handling this toxic chemical, wear protective gear.
For spraying, boom sprayers are used, specially designed for working with herbicides.
Safety precautions at work
Shkval herbicide is classified as a moderately hazardous substance, so all handling should be done wearing protective clothing, a respirator, and latex gloves. It is not recommended to handle it near bodies of water or apiaries.

Degree of toxicity
The agrochemical is classified as hazard class 3 for humans and bees. If safety precautions are followed, it poses no health risk.
Possible compatibility
Shkval is used in tank mixes with agrochemicals. However, the pesticide is also effective when used alone, so there's no need to combine it with other pesticides.
Storage conditions and shelf life
The chemical is stored in a designated dry area. The storage temperature should be between -10 and +25°C. The shelf life is 36 months from the date of manufacture.

Analogues
Solid-action drugs with a similar principle of operation include:
- "Arbonal";
- "Ace";
- "Grader";
- "Imperial".
Shkval herbicide is a self-contained chemical that requires no mixing with other ingredients. It effectively eliminates weeds and improves crop quality.
