Instructions for using Aktara for treating cucumbers in a greenhouse

Aktara for cucumbers in greenhouses is a systemic insecticide used to protect against a wide range of pests.

Description of the drug

The main active ingredient is thiamethoxam. It penetrates cucumber leaves through the vascular system.

Aktara remedy

The fruits themselves are virtually unaffected by the chemical, as thiamethoxam does not settle or accumulate in them. Actara is effective against the following pests:

  • aphid;
  • thrips;
  • scale insect;
  • whitefly;
  • mealybug;
  • false scale insect;
  • copperhead;
  • codling moth;
  • poodura;
  • Colorado beetle;
  • fungus gnat, etc.

This product does not kill mites! Aktara begins to work on greenhouse plants 20 hours after application. During this time, the active ingredient settles inside the plant leaves, unaffected by sun or rain. After 3 days, the solution reaches the stems and shoots. The protection period lasts approximately 28 days if the foliar spray is applied, and 60 days if the product is applied to the roots.

Pests on the leaf

The product has no pungent odor. It is available in the following forms:

  • suspension in ampoules;
  • granules.

The prepared mixture cannot be stored. Any unused solution must be discarded.

Important: Do not pour the solution near bodies of water or drinking water sources. Treating cucumbers for mealybugs or whiteflies may result in a second attack. In this case, re-treat the cucumber with a different solution.

Rotating insecticides allows for 100% effectiveness. For example, Aktara is compatible with:

  • fungicides;
  • growth regulators;
  • with most insecticides.

It is not recommended to combine the product with lime, soap and Bordeaux mixture.

Methods of application

There are two ways to treat cucumbers in greenhouses: by spraying the leaves or by watering the roots. Instructions for use:

  1. To control aphids, thrips, mealybugs, rootbugs, and other serious pests, dilute 8 g of granules in 10 liters of warm water. The water temperature should be approximately 25°C. Water the resulting solution at the roots of cucumbers. Application rate: 10 liters of solution per 10 m².
  2. To control mild pests (soil beetles and fungus gnats), simply dissolve 1 g of the product in 10 liters of warm water. Water the plant at the roots.
  3. For spraying bushes, dissolve 2-4 g of granules in 10 liters of water.

The substance can also be used for soaking seeds.

Growing cucumbers

The application rates for liquid Actara are the same as for granules. Since the product is available in 1.2 ml ampoules, it's easier to convert the dosage using a syringe. For example, to get rid of aphids, dilute 1.2 ml of liquid in 1.5 liters of warm water. Apply the solution under the roots.

Precautionary measures

Aktara's instructions for use state that it is classified as a toxicity level III—a hazardous substance. Therefore, treating cucumbers with the solution should only be done with protective clothing or a change of clothes, which should be washed after each use. Additionally, wear eye protection, gloves, and a respirator or protective mask. Treatment should be carried out in dry, windless weather.

Aktara remedy

While handling plants, do not drink, smoke, or eat. Immediately after using the product, wash your hands and face with soap and rinse your mouth.

Since the drug is toxic, harvesting is permitted only after:

  • 21 days if spraying was carried out;
  • 60 days if the soil was watered.

When working with Aktara, carefully monitor your health. The first signs of poisoning include:

  • nausea;
  • vomit;
  • dizziness;
  • general weakness.

Spraying with Aktara

If any symptoms appear, stop handling cucumbers immediately. First aid:

  1. If insecticide gets into your eyes, rinse them immediately with running water for 10 minutes.
  2. If it gets on the skin, wash the affected area with warm soapy water.
  3. If swallowed, induce vomiting, perform gastric lavage, and take 4 tablets of activated charcoal. Then call a doctor immediately.

The product has proven itself to be highly effective. It is quite effective, and its effects are long-lasting. Furthermore, the consumption rate is relatively low. The only drawback is its toxicity. However, if harvested within the specified timeframes, it poses no threat to the human body.
