The Glacier tomato is resistant to low temperatures and produces a fairly high yield. It is grown outdoors until the end of the summer season. Glacier tomatoes can be eaten fresh or canned whole. These tomatoes produce high-quality tomato juice and excellent paste.
The variety was developed by Siberian breeders for northern conditions. The first samples were obtained in 1999, and state registration of this outdoor tomato variety was achieved in 2000.
Brief description of the plant
Characteristics and description of the tomato Glacier f1:

- early variety;
- from the moment of planting seedlings until the fruits appear, it takes from 80 to 100 days;
- the plant grows well in open, unprotected soil, but it can also be grown in greenhouses;
- the entire group of tomatoes included in the Glacier variety (Garden Pearl, Tarpan and others) are distinguished by their high productivity;
- After ripening, the fruits of the described plant acquire a bright red color;
- the shape of the fruits of this variety is round, slightly flattened on the sides;
- the average weight of each fruit is 0.1-0.15 kg, although if you carry out the first harvest after the tomatoes have ripened, then most of the specimens will be of average size and weigh up to 0.2-0.3 kg;
- the collected fruits can be stored for a long time;
- can withstand long-term transportation.

The Lednik tomato variety grows well in the southern regions of Russia and in the central part of the country. Gardeners growing this variety in northern regions are advised to cover open-ground plants with plastic film, while in the Far North, it is best to grow Lednik in well-heated greenhouses.
If all agricultural practices are carried out correctly, you can get 7-8 kg of tomatoes from each bush, and if you use the nest planting method (4 bushes/1 sq. m of bed), you can collect up to 30 kg of harvest.
Reviews of the Glacier tomato variety are positive, but gardeners also note its drawbacks, along with its advantages. Farmers report the tomatoes' high resistance to various diseases, their ability to withstand sudden temperature drops, and the excellent taste of the fruit. However, gardeners note that Glacier bushes are demanding of soil composition and require intensive fertilizing during the growing season.

Recommendations for breeding the described variety
To prevent the branches from breaking after fruiting, they need to be tied and supported. In greenhouses, two plants are used for bush formation, while in open ground, three are used. At all stages of growth, the bush should be fed with complex fertilizers containing sufficient amounts of potassium and phosphorus.

This tomato variety tolerates fungal diseases well and rarely develops root rot. To eliminate the symptoms of this disease, it is recommended to loosen the soil, reduce mulching, and reduce watering.
Bushes can become diseased due to improper care, so it's important to strictly adhere to a watering schedule and regularly loosen the soil under each bush. Also, when growing tomatoes in greenhouses, ensure adequate ventilation. Greenhouses are also susceptible to whitefly infestations. This pest can be controlled with Confidor.
This variety can be susceptible to melon aphids and thrips. To combat these garden pests, we recommend using Zubr.

When grown in the southern regions of the country, the plant may be susceptible to attack by the Colorado potato beetle. To control this pest, use Prestige.
If the tomato grows in open ground, there is a risk of plant death from cutworm. To combat this dangerous pest, it's important to promptly weed the weeds where the cutworm develops. The aforementioned Zubr product is best for eliminating the cutworm.
