One of the new varieties is the Freken Bok tomato. It was developed by Siberian breeders for cultivation in greenhouses and hotbeds. The plant is highly weather-resistant, produces a high yield, and the fruits themselves are known for their excellent taste.
The Freken Bock tomato is quite large, juicy, and meaty, making it versatile for a variety of dishes. It's perfect for canning, making pastas, lecho, and fresh vegetable salads.
Characteristics of the Freken Bock variety
This tomato variety is an indeterminate plant. It reaches a height of up to 1.6 m. The bush is compact, with a strong root system and a robust trunk. The foliage is regular, dark green, and sparsely covers the branches. The plant tolerates drought and heat well, without sacrificing yield. The Freken Bock tomato has a medium ripening period. It takes an average of 90-100 days from the first shoot to harvest.

The inflorescence is normal. The first ovary forms after 7-8 leaves. The Freken Bock variety produces large fruits, weighing up to 500 g. The tomatoes are heart-shaped, a key characteristic of the Freken Bock variety.
The tomato is pink, almost crimson. A yellow spot forms around the stem. The flesh is firm, juicy, and aromatic. The taste is sweet with a slight tartness. It has unique spicy notes.
Tomatoes are not prone to cracking, but their skin is not very thick. The fruits themselves are quite firm, but are not well suited for long-distance transportation. They can be stored for a maximum of 2-3 weeks in a cool, well-ventilated area.

Tomatoes are highly productive. Up to 10 kg of tomatoes can be harvested per square meter per season.
This variety exhibits good resistance to many fungi and pests. Thanks to its early ripening, it is resistant to late blight.
To grow a strong plant and reap a bountiful harvest, it's important to properly cultivate the seedlings and plant them in a greenhouse. To do this, read the description and recommendations provided by the manufacturer. This information is usually included on the seed packet.

Growing tomatoes
For seedlings, sow seeds in late February or early March. Prepare a special container or wooden box for the seedlings.
Fill the container halfway with a special mixture of peat, turf, and coarse river sand. Seedling soil can be purchased at specialty stores or prepared at home. To do this, take the ingredients in equal proportions, mix, and moisten thoroughly.
Many gardeners prefer to soak seeds in a growth stimulant and a weak solution of potassium permanganate before planting.

Plant the seeds at a depth of 1.5–2 cm. Afterward, moisten the soil with warm, settled water. It's best to use a spray bottle or a regular sieve for watering. This will prevent the seeds from being washed out of the soil.
Cover the container with plastic wrap and leave it in a warm room. The room temperature should not drop below 20–21°C.
Once the seeds sprout, remove the film and place the box in a well-lit area. This could be a windowsill or a balcony.
Once the seedlings have developed two leaves, they can be pricked out. Small bushes are transplanted into individual pots or cups. Vegetable growers recommend using peat pots right away. When planting in the ground, the seedlings and their containers are dug into the soil.
Before planting, enrich the soil with nitrogen and fluoride. Good predecessors include legumes, zucchini, cucumbers, cauliflower, cabbage, peppers, onions, parsley, and dill.
Seedlings are planted at a rate of 3-4 bushes per 1 m². Next, the holes are mulched and watered with settled water. After 1-2 weeks, the seedlings can be fed with a complex mineral fertilizer.
Caring for tomatoes
Further cultivation will involve regular care of the plants:
- The greenhouse needs to be ventilated and the air humidity level needs to be monitored.
- Watering is best done as needed. Many people prefer to water their bushes every other day.
- The beds should be loosened regularly.
- Fertilizers should be applied no more than 1-2 times per season.
The Freken Bok tomato has its own characteristics and advantages. It's easy to grow, produces high yields, and the fruit quality is excellent. Experienced gardeners give the Freken Bok variety top reviews.
