Tomatoes are prized by gardeners due to their high yield and flavor. The Prima Donna tomato boasts many beneficial properties. It's also ideal for canning or eating fresh. Prima Donna tomatoes are early-ripening, which is especially important in short growing seasons, such as those found in northern Russia.
Description of the variety
The Primadonna F1 tomato variety is a determinate tomato, characterized by limited growth. Its main distinguishing feature is its high yield. It is also resistant to cold and other weather conditions, as well as immune to various diseases, such as verticillium wilt and cladosporium.

The tomatoes are firm and large; with proper care, they can be grown in 90–95 days. They have a slight tartness, giving them excellent flavor. They are used in fresh salads, as well as in canned products, as they retain their properties after cooking.
Growing
Prima Donna was specifically developed to make tomato cultivation possible in cold climates with a short planting season. Therefore, this variety can be used throughout Russia. Although it prefers warmer weather, it will also produce fruit in cold weather.

Tomato seeds should be soaked in a weak solution of potassium permanganate for several hours, then rinsed under running water. Some gardeners germinate them in the moistened solution for several days.
The soil should be well-aerated and fertile. The container should be wide but not too deep. Disinfect the soil and warm it to 25 degrees Celsius.
Plant the seeds in early April at a depth of no more than 2 cm and space them the same distance apart. Water the soil with warm water and cover with plastic wrap or thin glass if the seeds have not been germinated previously. Once the seedlings emerge, remove the covering material.

Plants should be pricked out after the first leaves appear. Tomatoes should be repotted to improve their root system. Fertilize the tomatoes twice with mineral fertilizer.
Two weeks before planting, harden off the seedlings. To do this, take them outside for a few hours each day.
Seedlings no more than two months old are now ready to be planted in their permanent location. This variety must have at least seven leaves before it can be planted.
The holes should be spaced up to half a meter apart, adding a phosphorus-containing fertilizer. Water generously and only at the roots. Mulching is possible.
Care Features
Loosening and weeding the soil under the plant should be done only when necessary. Partially remove side shoots, approximately every couple of weeks, to form the plant into a single stem.
Tomatoes only need to be supported if they produce large fruit. Supports or trellises are used for this purpose.
When tying, only synthetic ribbons are used, since other materials cause plant rotting.
Tomatoes need to be fed before fruit formation. For this purpose, use mineral fertilizers and mullein.

Advantages and disadvantages
The positive qualities of Primadonna F1 tomatoes include:
- unpretentiousness;
- resistance to cold natural conditions;
- resistance to common diseases;
- high yields even on infertile soil;
- early harvest;
- sour tomato taste, which allows tomatoes to be used in salads and canned products;
- the external attractiveness of the fruits.
With proper care, there are no disadvantages; the plant does not require constant monitoring and protection from pests.
Pests and diseases
It has strong immunity against most diseases, such as verticillium wilt or cladosporiosis, but for greater safety, disinfect the soil with a solution of potassium permanganate.
Preventative measures against pests must be taken to protect not only tomatoes, but also other plants. Spraying should be done several times during one season.
Harvesting and storage
Prima Donna prefers warm climates, but is also resistant to severe cold.
The first harvest is harvested just three months after planting. Early maturity is considered a hallmark of this variety, as multiple plants can be planted, requiring only watering and harvesting at least once a week to increase the chances of a harvest, even with late-season fruits.
The harvest can be stored like regular tomatoes, but the best solution is to eat the fresh vegetables, for example, in salads.

"The very first plant I planted at my dacha. I chose Prima Donna because of its good yield and low maintenance. It's hard for a novice gardener to remember all those watering schedules, but this one is simple and the tomatoes are delicious."
Irina Loza, 33 years old:
"Tasty and juicy tomatoes. I've been growing them for several seasons now, and I've had no problems. There aren't a lot of pests, but I still spray them. Last year, there was severe cold during the growing season, and many other varieties didn't survive, but these produced a harvest."
