The Staroselsky tomato, whose description indicates it can be grown outdoors, is popular among vegetable growers. This variety is easy to care for and adapts easily to weather conditions. These tomatoes boast a unique aroma, flavor, and versatility.
Advantages of the variety
The Staroselsky tomato is the work of Russian agrobiologists. The variety is adapted for cultivation in warm and temperate regions, both in open ground and under plastic. The determinate bush reaches a height of 100 cm during the growing season.
The Staroselsky tomato variety is distinguished by its early ripening fruit. The variety's characteristics and description indicate the possibility of independently adjusting the crown of the plant to achieve a high yield.
The bush bears a medium number of medium-sized, deep green leaves. The plant forms simple inflorescences. Six to eight tomatoes ripen in clusters. This variety is characterized by a uniform harvest. Ripe tomatoes are a rich red with an orange tint, without spots or stripes.
The fruits have a smooth surface with slight ribbing near the stem. Vegetable growers report a distinct tomato aroma and a sweet taste with a subtle tartness. The fruits are not prone to cracking during ripening.

The tomato flesh is juicy and fleshy, with a sugary texture when cut. A horizontal cut reveals a small number of seeds. The fruits weigh up to 300 g, and the yield is 6 kg per square meter. Harvested tomatoes store well and withstand long-distance transportation.
Ripe tomatoes are suitable for fresh consumption, juice, paste, and sauces. Canned tomatoes retain their shape.
Cultivation techniques
It is recommended to grow the Staroselsky tomato variety from seedlings. Before planting them in a container with prepared soil, soak the seeds in an aloe vera water solution.

To ensure uniform germination and healthy sprouts, treat the seeds with a growth stimulant. Plant the seeds at a depth of 1 cm, and spray the contents of the container with warm water using a spray bottle.
To germinate, seeds are maintained at a temperature of 23 to 25°C. The container with emerging seedlings is exposed to light, turning periodically to ensure uniform development.
It is recommended to provide the sprouts with additional lighting using a fluorescent lamp. Young seedlings are fed with complex fertilizers containing nitrogen and potassium.

When two true leaves have formed, transplant the seedlings into individual containers. Peat pots can be used for this purpose, as they make it easy to transport the seedlings to their permanent location.
When growing the Staroselsky variety, pay special attention to soil composition. This tomato is very demanding when it comes to nutrients, so it's recommended to prepare the site for the plants in advance and apply organic fertilizer.
Planting in open ground occurs after the end of spring frosts in the second half of May. Wood ash and compost are added to the prepared holes. Plants are spaced 40 cm apart, leaving 60 cm between rows.
It is recommended to grow the plant in 2-3 stems, removing excess shoots, taking into account the characteristics of the determinate bush. Tomatoes require moderate watering with warm water.
Allow the topsoil to dry out between waterings. Fertilize the bushes 3-4 times per season with complex and liquid organic fertilizers.

The Staroselsky variety is resistant to tobacco mosaic virus and fusarium. For preventive purposes, it is recommended to treat plants with biological preparations with antifungal action.
Root diseases can be prevented by loosening the soil, removing weeds, and mulching. Mulch (non-woven fiber, straw, or grass) ensures even moisture distribution and air access to the root system.
Biological pest control of tomatoes is carried out using insecticides, infusions of celandine and onion peels.

This year I tried growing this tomato variety for the first time, and the yield was a pleasant surprise. I grew it outdoors, and there were no diseases, and the seedlings are resilient to minor temperature fluctuations.
