"Gezagard" contains prometrin. This single-component product is sold as a concentrated suspension. The active ingredient inhibits photosynthesis. Packaging varies, from 100-300-gram bottles to plastic canisters with capacities ranging from 5 to 200 liters. Gezagard is used not only for vegetable gardens but also for fields of root crops, legumes, and other crops.
This soil-applied herbicide selectively suppresses weed growth, eliminating annual and perennial broadleaf weeds (quinoa, nightshade, dandelion, spurge, and wormwood) and grasses. Gezagard is safe for crops sown in the treated areas.
How quickly does it work?
This depends on the timing of application and the size of the weeds. When tilling the soil before planting crops, weeds do not germinate at all; if applied to young plants with 2-3 leaves, they turn yellow and die within 2-3 days; it takes a week to kill mature weeds.
The herbicide penetrates the root system from the soil and can also affect the leaves. The weed's roots and leaves turn yellow and die.
Advantages and disadvantages
Treating fields and gardens with Gezagard eliminates the tedious work of weeding and destroys weeds with extensive root systems that are difficult to remove manually.

Gezagard has few drawbacks: with frequent treatment, weeds become accustomed to the active ingredient, requiring frequent changes. If there is an apiary nearby, the beekeeper should be informed of the treatment, otherwise the insects will die. Winter crops should not be sown in treated areas, and prometrine (Gezagard's active ingredient) requires time to fully decompose.
Preparation of working solution
It is prepared before treatment; only the concentrate can be stored for a long time. In a container, mix the suspension with half the amount of water. Mix the resulting solution thoroughly until smooth, add the remaining water, and mix again. Use the prepared solution within 24 hours. Stir before use and stir periodically during treatment.
Average consumption rates
The herbicide application rate depends on the type of vegetables in the garden bed or farm field and the area being treated. Three months after treatment, the resulting vegetables and other crops can be safely eaten.
For carrots
Spray the beds before the seeds emerge or when the first 1-2 leaves appear. Apply 2-3 liters of Gezagard per 100 square meters. For heavy soils, increase the application rate to 3.5-4 liters.
For beans
The consumption is the same; for better effect, the preparation is embedded into the soil to a depth of 3-4 centimeters.
For potatoes
200-300 liters of working solution are used per hectare of area.
Rules of application
The prepared solution is mixed and applied to the beds using a sprayer. The sprayer should be washed immediately afterwards, as the product is corrosive to metal parts. The treatment should be carried out on a cloudy, windless day with moderate humidity. The soil should be slightly moist. "Gezagard" is applied at temperatures between 15 and 30°C. After application, the beds and spaces between rows should not be loosened for 7-10 days.
Precautions for use
Wear boots, safety glasses, a respirator, and rubber gloves. Cover your hair with a cap or scarf. Wear thick, long-sleeved clothing during the treatment. Wash or discard the clothing afterward.
Degree of toxicity
The herbicide "Gezagard" belongs to hazard class 3, which includes moderately hazardous substances. It should be used with caution, but if you strictly follow the manufacturer's instructions, there is no risk to your health.
Possible compatibility with other products
Gezagard is compatible with other plant treatments, can be combined with fertilizers, and is suitable for preparing tank mixes. This reduces the labor intensity of crop care.
Storage conditions and shelf life
The concentrate can be used for up to 3 years from the date of production. The container lid must be tightly closed. Partial withdrawal from the canister does not affect the herbicide's properties. It should be protected from direct sunlight and temperatures above 25°C. Store Gezagard out of the reach of children and pets. The working solution should be used within 24 hours; it loses its properties during storage.
Similar means
The analogues have a different active ingredient.
- "Uragan-Forte"—the active ingredient is potassium glyphosphate. This Swiss-made product is effective against most weeds and is used to clear areas for planting crops.
- "Bazagran" – the active ingredient is bentazone. It is used against dicotyledonous annuals in fields with legumes and cereals. It is manufactured in Germany.
- Fusilade-Forte is a Swiss herbicide designed to kill grass weeds in vegetable beds and fields. Fluazifop-P butyl is the active ingredient in this herbicide.
