Many agricultural producers use the herbicide Prima to control various types of weeds. Its unique composition lies in its two active chemical components, each of which targets specific weeds. The herbicide's effectiveness extends to most annual and some biennial grasses. According to clinical trials, Prima controls 160 weed species.
What is included in the composition and existing forms of release
The herbicide is manufactured by the Swiss company Syngenta. It is available as a highly concentrated suspension. It contains two active ingredients:
- 2-ethylhexyl ester 2,4-D - 1 liter of suspension contains 300 grams of the substance;
- florasulam - 1 liter of suspension contains 6.25 grams of substance.
These components are derivatives of phenoxyacetic acid, which makes the product highly effective in controlling annual and some perennial weeds.
The drug is available in two versions:
- 5 liter canister for use in agriculture on large areas;
- bottle 100 ml.
In addition to the classic suspension "Prima" (SE), "Prima Forte" is produced with a reduced volume of active substances per 1 liter of substance.
Advantages and disadvantages

How does the product work?
The product is absorbed by plant tissue and transported by sap flow from the rhizomes to the leaf tips. Under the influence of 2,4-D, weeds stop producing growth hormone, and florasulam disrupts the process of amino acid synthesis. Internal metabolism is disrupted, and the weed stops growing and dies. Maximum results are achieved 14-21 days after treatment.
How much herbicide should be used for different plants?
Depending on the type of crop, the amount of suspension required for processing varies:
- 0.4-0.6 l/ha – spring and winter wheat, rye, spring barley. Treatment is carried out in the 3-5 leaf stage of the crop at the early stage of weed germination;
- 0.6 l/ha – spring and winter wheat, rye, spring barley. Treatment is carried out in the 5-7 leaf stage of the crop or if cleavers is clearly the predominant weed;
- 0.4-0.6 l/ha – corn. Treatment is carried out in the 3-5 leaf stage of the crop and early weed germination;
- 0.6 l/ha – corn. Treatment is carried out in the 5-7 leaf stage of the crop.

How to prepare a solution
The preparation procedure is specified in the herbicide instructions. Fill the sprayer one-third full with clean water, then add the required amount of solution. After thoroughly shaking, fill the sprayer with water until it's full.
Instructions for use
To achieve maximum results, treatment with the preparation should be carried out at the early stage of weed germination.
The working solution must be prepared before starting work in the required volume, taking into account the area of the area being treated.
Security measures
To work with Prima herbicide, you must have personal protective equipment (PPE) ready: coveralls, a respirator with a filter, gloves, and protective plastic goggles. Do not spray in windy conditions. Do not take breaks for snacks or smoking during spraying. If working in multiple stages, maintain a distance of at least 100 meters from the soil being treated between each stage. After finishing work, wash your hands thoroughly with soap, rinse your mouth, flush your eyes, and wipe your ears. Wipe your respirator with alcohol.

Degree of phytotoxicity
Its toxic effect extends only to weeds. Prima is safe for cereal crops and honeybees. The product is safe for humans provided there is no direct contact.
First aid for poisoning
If the herbicide comes into direct contact with exposed skin or mucous membranes, rinse the affected area thoroughly with running water for 2-3 minutes. If general symptoms of intoxication occur, take activated charcoal at a rate of 1 tablet per 10 kilograms of body weight. It is recommended to drink plenty of fluids – clean drinking water, unsweetened tea with lemon, still mineral water, natural juices, and fruit drinks. If severe poisoning occurs, call an ambulance immediately.
Storage rules and periods
Due to the suspension's toxicity, it should be stored out of the reach of children and pets. The herbicide packaging must be completely sealed. Storage in unventilated areas is prohibited. Store at temperatures between 10 and 35 degrees Celsius. The shelf life should not exceed 3 years from the production date.
