Without treating agricultural crops with herbicides, it's difficult to achieve a good harvest. Let's look at the composition and form of the herbicide "Proponit," its mechanism of action, advantages, dosage and consumption, and the procedure for preparing the working mixture. We'll also discuss how to use the solution according to the instructions, its toxicity, what it can be mixed with, how and for how long to store it, and alternative products.
Composition, dosage form and purpose
Proponit is manufactured by UPL LLC as an emulsifiable concentrate in 20-liter canisters. The active ingredient is propisochlor, at a concentration of 720 g per liter. It is a systemic, selective-action medication.
Proponit is used to treat crops against annual cereals and some bipartite weeds. It is used on corn, spring and winter rapeseed, soybeans, sunflowers, and sugar beets.
Mechanism of action
Propizochlor inhibits protein synthesis in weed tissue, thereby killing them. After a single application of the herbicide, areas remain weed-free for 1-2 months.
Advantages of the drug

"Proponit" has the following advantages:
- selective action on weeds, it is non-toxic for the crops being treated and does not inhibit them even in the initial stages of development;
- controls many types of 1-year-old weeds;
- application at an early stage of crop growth allows them to grow without the influence of weeds, which improves their development and increases yield;
- long-lasting action;
- can be used in mixtures with herbicides from other chemical classes;
- does not affect crop rotation; any crop can be sown and planted the following season.
"Proponit" is used only in fields; it is not used on personal plots.
Calculation of consumption
Spraying is carried out before emergence and in the early stages of crop development: 2-3 leaves for corn, 2-4 leaves for beets, rapeseed, and soybeans. Application rate (in liters per hectare):
- before germination – 2-3:
- for young crops and weeds – 2.5-3 (soybeans – 3).

The solution consumption in each case is the same – 200-300 l per hectare, the time before harvest is 60 days.
How to prepare a working mixture
"Proponit" must be diluted before use. First, take the amount of concentrate needed to prepare a solution for one sprayer tank. Fill the tank halfway with water, add the product, stir, top up with water, and stir again.
For spraying, you can use commercially available boom sprayers with slotted nozzles designed for pesticides. While spraying, stir the solution in the tank. Use the solution within one day of preparation; storing it longer than that will cause it to lose its beneficial properties.
Instructions for use
According to the instructions for use, spraying with Proponit should be done in the morning or evening. It can also be sprayed during the day, but only when it is cool or cloudy, so that the solution does not evaporate prematurely in the sun.

There's no need to work the solution into the soil if it's well-moistened. If not, it's advisable to work it in. After this, do not loosen the soil.
Precautionary measures
According to the instructions, when working with the herbicide, wear protective clothing with long sleeves and gloves to protect your hands from the solution. A respirator and goggles to protect your nose and eyes are also required. It's important to wash your hands and face with laundry soap after use.
If the solution comes into contact with skin or eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water. If the herbicide solution is ingested, perform gastric lavage: drink 1 liter of water and take activated charcoal (1 tablet per 10 kg of body weight). If the condition does not improve, seek medical attention.
How toxic is it?
Proponit is classified as toxicity class 2 for humans and 3 for bees. It should not be used in fields located near bodies of water.

To prevent bee deaths, it is necessary to maintain a 2-3 km flight boundary zone for these insects and not to spray flowering crops or weeds during the period when bees are actively migrating.
Possible compatibility
Proponit is highly compatible with herbicides containing active ingredients from other groups, as well as with sulfonylurea-based products. Despite its good compatibility, when mixing with different products, compatibility should be checked in advance, as this may be affected by the formulation and the quality of the solution used.
How to store it correctly and for how long
Proponit has a shelf life of 3 years in dry, dark, ventilated warehouses. Store the liquid in its original containers with tightly sealed lids. If storage conditions are not met, the product will lose its potency and is not recommended for use. Other pesticides and fertilizers may be stored in the warehouse, but food, medications, household products, and animal feed are prohibited.

Analogues
Products containing propisochlor for agriculture include "Proponit Duo," "Acetal Pro," "Procul," and "Labrador." The herbicide "Proponit Duo," in addition to propisochlor, also contains a second active ingredient, clomazone. The other products are similar in composition to "Proponit" and are used on the same crops and against similar weed species.
Proponit is an effective herbicide used on corn, sunflower, rapeseed, beets, and soybeans, protecting crops from early-season weeds. It is fast-acting and provides long-lasting protection: after a single application, weeds remain in the area for 1-2 months, allowing crops to grow, develop, and bear fruit normally. Its low application rate and solution consumption make it a cost-effective herbicide.
