Alatar is an insecticide used against the Colorado potato beetle and other insects according to the instructions. It is a broad-spectrum product with a 20-day effect thanks to its adhesive component that adheres the active ingredient to plant leaves. Its chemical composition is classified as hazardous to humans and requires precautions when using it.
Characteristics of the drug "Alatar"
Alatar is designed to combat harmful insects. It is used to treat large fields, greenhouses, and indoor plants. The product consists of several components that effectively and quickly eliminate pests. The concentrated chemical composition penetrates the beetles' internal organs through their food and contact with leaves. By affecting the nervous system, it causes paralysis, which ultimately results in their death.
Chemical composition
This is a complex formulation containing two main active ingredients and auxiliary components. The auxiliary components help the formulation adhere to the leaves and prevent it from being washed off during rainy weather. The insecticide contains:
- malathion;
- cypermethrin;
- solvent;
- surfactants;
- antioxidants.
Release form and manufacturing company
Alatar is available in a convenient form. It is packaged in 5 ml ampoules. The containers are made of plastic. Ampoules are sold individually or in sets of 50. They are also available in 25 ml plastic jars. The main supplier on the market is the Russian company Vashe Khozyaystvo LLC.

Efficiency and duration of action
After treating potatoes, Colorado potato beetles are completely killed within 1-2 days. Alatar's effectiveness lasts for 20 days. The end of its effect can be determined by noticing a new infestation. In this case, repeat the treatment. The product's effectiveness is achieved through the following properties:
- affects insects that are most resistant to chemicals;
- acts synergistically;
- remains on the leaves after rain;
- drops remain on the leaves during processing;
- the chemical composition is resistant to sunlight;
- maintains a long-lasting effect for up to 20 days.

Instructions for use
When preparing the solution and carrying out treatment, it is important to follow the instructions for use to avoid overdosing the plants and achieve maximum effect.
Preparation of working solution
To treat potato beds with "Alatar," dilute 5 ml of the product in 1 liter of water. Mix the solution thoroughly with a glass or wooden stick. Dilute the concentrated solution with 9 liters of water and spray.
To spray tomatoes or cabbage, use 4 ml of Alatar per 5 liters of water. To protect woody plants, use a ratio of 1 ampoule per 10 liters of water. 10 liters of solution is enough to treat an area of 10 square meters.
Important! The concentration of the active ingredient varies for each crop.

After finishing work with the solution, all dishes that came into contact with the working solution are washed with a soapy water solution 2-3 times.
When is it recommended to carry out treatment with the drug?
To combat the Colorado potato beetle, treatment is carried out at the beginning of the growing season, when the seedlings reach 20 cm in height. If an insect attack is detected earlier, spraying is carried out immediately. When spraying, it is important to consider weather conditions. Bushes are treated in dry, windless weather. If rain is expected, spraying is carried out 6 hours before it begins. It is recommended to carry out the procedure in the morning or evening.
Frequency of spraying bushes
Spraying depends on the potato's ripening time. For early-ripening varieties, a single application is sufficient, as they have a short growing season of 40 to 70 days. For mid-season varieties, spraying is carried out twice per season, if necessary; their growing season is 80 to 95 days. Late-ripening varieties require 2-3 applications, as ripening takes up to 120 days. If no new Colorado potato beetle infestation is detected, repeat spraying is not necessary.

When can I eat vegetables after taking Alatar?
In some cases, Colorado potato beetles attack potato plants at the end of the growing season. In such cases, it is recommended to use folk remedies or biological products. Treatment with "Alatar" should be carried out no later than 20 days before harvest. This is the time period during which the active ingredients completely break down and pose no harm to humans.
Precautionary measures
When using Alatar, it is necessary to wear personal protective equipment and observe safety precautions. These include:
- Rubber shoes to protect the skin of your feet.
- Plastic or cellophane apron for clothes.
- Use rubber gloves when preparing the working solution and during processing.
- Protective transparent glasses to prevent the absorption of chemicals through the mucous membrane of the eyes.
- Use of a respirator to protect the respiratory tract.
- The hair is tied into a bun and covered with a scarf to prevent damage.
- During treatment, eating or smoking is prohibited.
- The solution is prepared in a ventilated area or in the fresh air.
- After spraying, wash your hands thoroughly with soap.
- If the substance comes into contact with the skin, it must be washed off with plenty of water.
- If swallowed, induce vomiting and take activated charcoal and plenty of water.

In case of poisoning with a chemical compound, the following symptoms appear:
- nausea;
- vomit;
- dizziness;
- difficulty breathing;
- drowsiness;
- loss of appetite;
- When in contact with skin, it causes tissue burns.
If signs of poisoning appear, it is recommended to rest for a long time, drink plenty of fluids, take activated charcoal and wash out the stomach.
Compatibility with other drugs
This insecticide does not need to be combined with other products, as it targets a wide range of insects. However, Alatar remains effective when combined with other products. Insecticide spraying can also be combined with herbicides and fungicides.

Analogues and substitutes
Alatar has many analogs with similar and identical compositions. The following products have a similar effect on the Colorado potato beetle:
- "Arrivo" has a similar composition to "Alatar" and has the same effect.

Reviews
Anastasia, 37, from Kerch: "I use Alatar to control Colorado potato beetles and other pests. I buy 12-15 ampoules for a 600-square-meter plot. I prepare a solution of the appropriate concentration for each crop. I spray early in the morning on a dry day. The effect lasts 18-20 days. I prefer mid-season potato varieties, so I apply one or two applications per season."
Zlata, 46, Moscow: "Every year I struggle with pests. I didn't know how to deal with them until I tried the Alatar insecticide. After treating my potato patch, the Colorado potato beetles completely disappeared within 24 hours. I was so pleased with the results that I bought five more ampoules and treated my trees and shrubs for the pests."
Alina, 29, from Vladivostok: "I plant a large amount of potatoes. The Colorado potato beetle is the most common problem. They quickly eat the leaves of the plants and reduce the potato yield. These insects are quite difficult to control. At the flower shop, they suggested trying the insecticide "Alatar." After treatment, the beetles disappeared within 10 hours and didn't attack again for the rest of the season."
