Instructions for use of Clotiamet against Colorado potato beetles

According to gardeners, Clotiamet is effective against Colorado potato beetles. This insecticide quickly and effectively eliminates the problem, saving significant time when dealing with them. It's reasonably priced and of excellent quality.

Description, composition and release form

Clotiamet's active ingredient is clothianidin. It is a single-ingredient product. The insecticide is a white powder that is odorless and tasteless. It is based on thiamethoxane, which once had a similar effect. The product is widely used to control harmful insects that attack agricultural crops. It is used on potatoes, beets, and rapeseed.

Clotiamet is available in ampoules containing 0.5 grams of dry substance. Each package contains one or five ampoules. Clotiamet is also available in 250-gram plastic jars containing pre-packaged 0.5-gram granules.

Important! There are many clothianidin-based formulations available. Therefore, if Clotiamet is unavailable, you can purchase an alternative.

How Clotiamet works

Clothianidin inhibits the insect nervous system. It depresses the beetles' nerve cells, causing paralysis and subsequent death. Clotiamet acts in three ways:

  • through contact between the insect and the plant;
  • getting into the beetle's intestines;
  • penetrates the organs and tissues of insects through the respiratory system.

The effectiveness of the drug

After potato treatment, clothianidin accumulates in the plant's leaves and roots. Insects feed on the leaf blades and die. Death occurs within 24 hours. Clotiamet's effects last for 2 weeks.

The active ingredient in the drug is destroyed after 121 days. This process is accelerated by exposure to sunlight.

The treatment is repeated once it is completely clear that the drug has ceased to have an effect.

How to prepare the solution?

The contents of one ampoule are diluted in 2 liters of water and mixed well. The resulting emulsion is diluted to 10 liters by adding another 8 liters of water. The resulting solution is sufficient to spray 200 square meters of potato beds.

Instructions for use

Fill the sprayer with 2 liters of water. Place a 0.5-gram ampoule or granule containing the active ingredient into it. Mix thoroughly. Then add a few more liters of water. Mix again. Bring the line up to 10 liters with water.

After treatment, rinse the sprayer and hose with a soapy water solution and a solution of soda ash. Use only plastic or enamel containers to mix the chemical solution. Re-enter the treated area after 5 days.

Important! Clotiamet is toxic to bees. If used near an apiary, it is recommended to replace the product with a safer one. It is also prohibited to use it near water bodies.

Reviews

Valentina, 46 years old, Ufa:

Every year I grow a large amount of potatoes for my family. It's quite difficult to control the Colorado potato beetle manually; it takes too much time. I've been using Clotiamet since last year. I spray it in early summer. The insects don't attack and die quickly. I followed the instructions for preparation and handling, taking safety precautions.

Evgeniy, 35 years old, Krasnodar:

The first time I bought Clotiamet to treat potatoes, I bought five ampoules at once, thinking it wouldn't be enough. The price is reasonable. I applied the product twice during the season, mixing the powder in a sprayer. The first spray was in early June, and the second in July, when I noticed a new infestation of Colorado potato beetles. The insects die quickly. The day after the treatment, not a single one was left on the leaves.

Dmitry, 40 years old, Chekhov

I've been fighting Colorado potato beetles manually every year and am very tired of it. This year, I bought Clotiamet. The beetles quickly retreated after treatment. The only disappointing thing was the arrival of new insects a month and a half later. I repeated the treatment, and the beetles have not returned. I'm pleased with the price and effectiveness of the product.
