Description of the Gamayun tomato, yield and consumer properties

The Gamayun tomato, whose yield is remarkably unanimous, can be grown throughout Russia. It performs well in both Siberian and southern regions, and is considered one of the recommended varieties for cultivation in central Russia.

Main qualities of the variety

This is a mid-early crop, ready to harvest as early as the first or second ten days of July, even in open ground. It takes 100-105 days from sowing to the first fruits. Tomatoes ripen well on the vine, but if unripe fruits are picked, they can be ripened further in boxes at room temperature.

Gamayun tomatoes

The Gamayun F1 variety is versatile and suitable for greenhouses and plastic shelters, but also tolerates open ground conditions well. Its increased tolerance to summer heat and drought makes it ideal for those who visit their dacha only once or twice a week. This same quality allows Gamayun tomatoes to be grown in a greenhouse without the risk of some flowers remaining unpollinated due to high temperatures.

The bush is semi-determinate, but the stem grows indefinitely. Over the course of a season, the tomato reaches 1.5–2 m, depending on growing conditions. It is recommended to tie it to a trellis, training it into 1–2 stems. The plant is prone to side shoots, so regular pruning is required. Avoid breaking off any overgrown shoots, as this can damage the tomato plant. Overgrown side shoots should be pinched off above the first flower cluster.

Pinching tomatoes

The fruits of the Gamayun variety have the following properties:

  1. The spherical shape is convenient for canning. The uniform ripening of the fruits in a single cluster allows for harvesting large quantities of identical tomatoes for winter storage.
  2. The bright red, firm, and thick skin of the tomatoes does not crack during ripening or cooking. This same quality allows them to resist the pathogens of macrosporiosis during rainy seasons and to store and transport well.
  3. The dense, fleshy pulp makes it ideal for pickling and marinating, as the tomatoes don't fall apart and retain their shape. When making juices or lecho, the vibrant coloring allows for a high-quality, beautifully colored product.
  4. Tomatoes have a typical sweet and sour flavor with a distinct aroma. They are great in salads, hot dishes, and sauces, and they hold their shape well when stuffed.
  5. Each cluster produces 5-7 identical, spherical fruits weighing 100-120 g each. The average yield per bush is up to 5 kg. A 40x60 cm planting pattern allows for high yields per unit area.

Growing seedlings

The Gamayun variety is characterized by resistance to fusarium and late blight. This helps preserve the harvest even without chemical treatment.

How to grow a good harvest?

Seedlings are sown in early April. At a soil temperature of 25°C, seedlings emerge in 4–7 days. After the first true leaf appears, seedlings should be transplanted into 7x7 cm boxes. During the growing process, seedlings need to be watered on time with warm water with the addition of potassium permanganate (light pink solution). After watering, the stems near the soil should be dusted with wood ash.

Watering tomatoes

To prevent tomatoes from becoming leggy, provide them with fluorescent lighting. Daylight hours should be at least 10 hours per day. This will help them grow short and strong plants.

Transplanting into the ground can be done in early May (greenhouse or hotbed) or early June (open beds). One week after planting, feed the plants with a complex mineral fertilizer according to the product instructions. When the first flower clusters appear, feed with a phosphorus-potassium fertilizer.

Reviews from gardeners

Marina Viktorovna, Voronezh:

"Our tomatoes always grow well, but in particularly dry years, the plants suffer from lack of moisture. Gamayun tomatoes have proven to be resilient to heat and temperature fluctuations in the fall. Fruit sets right up until the frost. But I especially like their shape—perfectly round."

Valeria, Pskov:

"I liked the Gamayun variety of cucumbers; they're uniform and small. The package description was accurate. They're great for pickling and marinating, especially in a variety with small cucumbers. They make beautiful preserves. I even made juice. It turned out a rich red, just the way I wanted."

Roman, Novosibirsk:

"The Siberian climate is considered risky for farming. But even in cold summers, Gamayun's tomato bushes produce plenty. They don't ripen in the ground; you have to pick them green, but they ripen well right in the pantry. There's just one inconvenience: every year I have to look for similar seeds for sale. I read that F1 tomatoes can't be used for seed, but the packaging says so. My wife preserves these tomatoes for the winter. They're very firm and delicious. They're also great for salads; they have a classic flavor."
