Description of the tall tomato Millionaire and recommendations for growing seedlings

The Millionaire tomato is a tall variety with large fruits and excellent flavor. Its good disease resistance allows it to be planted in almost any soil. This is why this variety is popular not only near private homes but also in garden plots.

What is Millionaire?

The variety's description indicates that the tomatoes are dark pink, round, flat, and juicy. Due to their uniform ripening, they are often used in salads and tomato juice. Individual fruits weigh between 300 and 800 g. The bushes reach a height of 2.5 m and require support. The tomato stems are strong and dark green.

The variety tolerates hot weather well. During periods of drought, the Millionaire tomato fruits do not crack.

With proper care, the yield from 1 bush can reach 15-20 kg.

Growing tips

To get a good harvest, you should follow some recommendations.

When growing this variety, it's not recommended to use fresh manure as fertilizer, as it will cause the plant to become overweight, developing strong stems and large leaves. This will result in small fruits, and their development and growth will be slower.

Tomato bush

Gardeners often pinch off the plant's strongest leaves to increase fruit production. However, it's not recommended to remove as many leaves as possible, especially if the plant is grown in a greenhouse, as they are essential for providing the fruit with nutrients. Therefore, during the plant's development, only diseased and yellowed leaves should be removed.

Once the fruit has fully formed and ripened, the leaves on the lower clusters can be removed. As the tomatoes ripen, you can pluck the leaves under each ripe cluster, but no more than 2-3 leaves per week.

Also, don't forget to remove the side shoots, as they can cause you to lose a significant portion of your harvest.

Growing seedlings

In cloudy weather, flowering is delayed. To improve fruit set, spray tomato plants with a 0.02% boric acid solution. If the weather doesn't improve, repeat the treatment in 2-3 days.

Tomatoes need to be watered infrequently but thoroughly. After each watering, hill up the plants and loosen the soil between the rows, as without this, the root system will not be able to fully deliver moisture and nutrients to the fruits and leaves.

When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, ensure that the room temperature does not reach +30°C, as excessive heat will cause tomato leaves to curl and ovaries to fall off. Ventilate the room if necessary.

Loam soil is ideal for growing tomatoes outdoors. When choosing a planting site, consider areas previously used for crops with shallow root systems (cucumbers, cabbage, onions, carrots, and legumes).

Quality of seedlings

High-quality seedlings are crucial in tomato cultivation, as they determine the yield. Hardy seedlings, which are less susceptible to disease, are grown from seeds of this variety. Sow seeds in late March or early April to a depth of 2-3 cm.

Before sowing, it is advisable to treat the seeds with a solution of potassium permanganate, followed by rinsing in warm water.

Ripe tomatoes

Once 2-3 leaves appear on the seedlings, they need to be pricked out. By the 55th to 60th day, the seedlings will be fully established and ready for planting in open ground.

A week before planting tomatoes in open ground, hardening off the plants is necessary, after which the seedlings can be planted in the beds.
