Many gardeners are interested in how to grow the Udachny tomato. Gardeners have several varieties of tomatoes that bear fruit throughout the summer and partially into September. Early-ripening tomato varieties are planted first, ensuring delicious fruits as early as June. One such variety, popular with consumers for its early fruiting, is the Udachny. Its low maintenance and easy care allow gardeners to harvest their first crop as early as the end of June.
What is the Udachny tomato?
The Udachny variety is loved not only for its early yield but also for its excellent taste and other characteristics. Although the variety requires little effort to grow and care for, it's important to consider the tomato's key characteristics and description.

Characteristics and description of the variety:
- The height of plants during growth varies from 0.6 to 0.8 cm.
- Determination is considered one of the main characteristics of the variety, since the low-growing bush does not require constant tying to trellises or pegs.
- From 7 to 9 clusters are formed on 1 bush.
- The fruits ripen quickly: the average period for the first tomatoes to appear on the bushes is from 95 to 105 days after planting the seeds in the ground.
The tomatoes deserve special mention in the variety's description. They have a perfect round shape and reach a weight of 150-200 g when ripe. The skin and core are a pleasant red color, the flesh is firm, and the skin is dense and glossy, not cracking when ripe.
The fruits are distinguished by their excellent taste and characteristic tomato aroma. A single bush can yield up to 3.5 kg or more of tomatoes, but proper care is essential for this.
Tomatoes can be transported over long distances. Their shelf life after harvest is 1–1.5 months.
Thus, the Udachny variety is ideal for growing for both home and commercial purposes. At home, the harvested fruits are used for canning whole, making tomato paste, juices, sauces, and ketchup.

In summer, Udachny tomatoes are recommended for fresh tomato and other vegetable salads. Barrel pickles are delicious and healthy. In commercial production, tomatoes are used to make tomato juice or tomato paste.
How are tomatoes grown?
Let's look at the specifics of tomato cultivation. This variety has proven successful in greenhouses and open ground. Plants must be planted in beds, taking into account the climatic and natural conditions that exist in a particular region. Cultivation is carried out through seedlings, the seeds for which are sown in March.

Seeds should be purchased from specialized stores that stock all varieties of the Udachny variety. You should also buy pots filled with peat, into which the seeds, previously disinfected in potassium permanganate, are placed. The pots should be covered with plastic film to create a greenhouse effect and placed in a room with a stable temperature.
When the first two leaves appear, transplant them. Ten days before transplanting the seedlings into the ground, harden them off by placing them in a cool room for a few hours. A balcony or loggia is ideal for this. This will help the plants adapt more quickly to being transferred to the garden, whether in a greenhouse or outdoors.

When choosing a site for planting seedlings, make sure it receives ample sunlight and is sheltered from strong winds. Four to six seedlings can be planted per square meter, which will facilitate weeding, hilling, and watering. The optimal number of plants per site is four to five seedlings.
Watering and weeding the bushes regularly prevents disease. Use only warm water, applied to the bushes in the evening, avoiding contact with the leaves. This variety is highly resistant to diseases such as root rot and blossom-end rot. Other infections can be prevented through preventative measures and fertilization.
