Review and application of herbicides for winter and spring garlic against weeds

Totril

The active ingredient in this product is ioxynil. It can be applied when plants have 2-3 full leaves. It effectively combats harmful grasses.

Totril's advantages: it doesn't accumulate in soil or vegetables; it can be applied in several applications at regular intervals.

Herbicide Totril

Consumption rate: 15-20 ml per 1 ha.

Usage instructions: Do not apply to sick or weak vegetables. It is not recommended to combine this product with any other substances. It is not recommended to apply the product to garden beds before rain.

The first effect will be noticeable within a couple of hours—weed leaves will begin to turn yellow. The grass will die off completely within 1-2 weeks.

Hurricane Forte

The product is used after weeds emerge. The active ingredient is glyphosate. Weeds are treated in the fall, after the garlic harvest.

Advantages of Hurricane Forte: It works on a wide range of grasses—perennials, annuals, cereals, and dicotyledons. Hurricane Forte is used only once per season, as weeds do not regrow after spraying.

Consumption: 15 ml per 100 m².

Herbicide Hurricane

Application tips: Treatment is best carried out in dry weather. Spray the vegetative parts of weeds. Perennials should be treated during the active flowering phase, while annuals should be treated after two full leaves have formed.

Initial weed infestation will be noticeable within 5 days. Complete weed death occurs within 2-3 weeks.

Stomp

The active ingredient is pendimethalin. This product is suitable for controlling annual weeds. It is used when growing garlic, specifically immediately after planting.

Stomp's advantages: long-lasting protective action, safety for the treated vegetable, resistance to sunlight, and inhibition of weed growth.

Consumption: from 30 to 50 ml per 1 ha.

Herbicide Stomp

Application notes: Not suitable for peaty soils. It is recommended to lightly moisten the soil before using the herbicide. Application should be carried out in dry, windless weather, in the morning or evening. Stomp should not be used at temperatures below 5°C or above 25°C.

Results will be visible 60 days after plant treatment. The product should not be reapplied for at least 4 months.

Targa Super

Effectively kills perennial and annual grass weeds. The active ingredient is quizalofop-P-ethyl. Weeds are treated after 3-6 leaves have emerged. The best results are achieved when weeds are in the active growth phase.

Targa Super's advantages: its effectiveness lasts throughout the growing season. It's safe for humans and animals. It's quickly absorbed by the leaf surface.

Consumption: from 1 to 2.5 l per 1 ha.

Herbicide Targa

Application notes: After treating plants, it is not recommended to loosen the soil for a month. The product should be applied in dry, warm weather. Do not use at temperatures above 27°C. Garlic should not be consumed for 30 days after spraying.

The first results become noticeable within 5 days. The full effect is achieved within 2-3 weeks.

Herbicides for spring garlic

The most common herbicides for garlic are:

  • Goal;
  • Fusilade Forte;
  • Lontrel Grand.

Goal

The active ingredient is oxyfluorfen. This selective herbicide is suitable for controlling annual weeds and their seedlings. The soil can be treated both before and after the grass emerges.

Goal's advantages: its effectiveness lasts approximately 3 months. It is not washed off with water and does not migrate through the soil. It is non-toxic.

Herbicide Goal

Consumption: 10 ml per 100 m².

Application precautions: Do not spray at temperatures above 25°C. Also, do not spray weeds if hot, dry weather has been present for four days. Gray spots may appear on plant leaves after spraying. These disappear within a couple of days.

Results are visible 2-3 weeks after treatment. No more than 3 sprayings are allowed per season.

Fusilade Forte

The active ingredient is fluazifop-P-butyl. It inhibits cell division and stops weed growth. It is effective against annual grasses.

Advantages of Fusilade Forte: it's fast-acting and has a long-lasting effect. It's non-toxic to garlic.

Consumption: 12.5 ml per 100².

Fusilade Forte

Growing precautions: not recommended for use with other products. Effectiveness is reduced in hot, dry weather. Do not apply to plants at temperatures above 27°C.

The product is moderately toxic to humans, animals, and crops. Garlic may be consumed only one month after spraying. Grain may not be planted in fields treated with the herbicide until one year later.

Lontrel Grand

Suitable for controlling perennial and annual plants. Treatment is carried out during the rosette stage, when the grass height does not exceed 15 cm. The active ingredient is clopyralis.

Advantages of Lontrel Granda: long-lasting effectiveness. Safe for human and animal health. Does not affect the treated crop.

Consumption: 10-15 ml per 1 ha.

Application tips: The ideal temperature for using the product is between 10°C and 25°C. There is no need to loosen the soil after using the product.

The results become fully visible 50-60 days after using the product.
