Instructions for use and composition of the herbicide Escudo, dosage and analogues

Herbicides help keep crops free of many types of weeds. They are used to treat grains and vegetables. Let's look at the composition and description of the herbicide "Escudo," its mechanism of action, release form, how it affects which plants, and its effects. We'll also explore the product's advantages and disadvantages, dosage and consumption, and how to prepare and use the solution. We'll also discuss the product's toxicity and compatibility, storage conditions, and shelf life. We'll also discuss its alternatives.

Composition, description and manufacturer

The herbicide is manufactured by the company "August." The active ingredient is rimsulfuron (a sulfonylurea), which is present in the product at a concentration of 500 g per kg. "Escudo" is a crop-selective herbicide.

Mechanism of action

Rimsulfuron, once applied to weeds, migrates to the growth points, where it inhibits acetolactate synthase. Within half a day, sprayed weeds stop growing and no longer compete with crops for nutrients, such as minerals and moisture. The effects of Escudo can be seen visually within 5-7 days in good weather, as weed growth is inhibited. Changes in growth points and leaves, such as chlorosis and leaf deformation, may also be observed. Weed death occurs within 3-4 weeks.

Dosage form

"Escudo" herbicide is available in water-dispersible granules in 100g bottles. This volume allows it to be used in private farms for treating tomato and potato beds.

What plants does it affect?

This post-emergence herbicide controls annual and perennial grasses of the grass family and many bicotyledonous weeds. It is used on corn crops, tomato seedlings and transplants, and potato beds.

Pros and cons

"Escudo" herbicide has the following advantages:

  • acts on many weeds, both annual and perennial, as well as dicotyledons, including sow thistle and thistle;
  • It is permissible to treat corn only with this herbicide after emergence; treatment with a soil preparation is not necessary;
  • safe for crops in crop rotation;
  • compatible in mixtures with herbicidal preparations.

Disadvantages of the product: a small number of types of crops that can be processed.

Calculation of consumption

According to the instructions, the dosage of the herbicide "Escudo" (kg per ha):

  • corn from 1-year-old weeds - 0.02;
  • perennial corn – 0.025;
  • potatoes, tomatoes, seed and seedlings – 0.25;
  • with 2-fold spraying in 2 waves of weeds - 0.015 + 0.01.

The solution consumption rate is 200-300 liters per hectare. During drought, to achieve effective control of grass weeds, the solution consumption rate should be at least 300 liters per hectare.

The herbicide is applied early in the growth of crops and weeds, and also when a second application is necessary—during the second wave of weeds. For enhanced effectiveness, the product is mixed with the surfactant "Adju" (200 ml per hectare). Two months must pass after the last spraying of corn before harvesting, one month after spraying potatoes, and three weeks after spraying tomatoes.

Preparation of the working mixture

To prepare the solution: Fill the sprayer tank with water until it's one-third full, add the granules at the desired dosage, and stir until dissolved. Then add water to the top and stir again.

Instructions for use

One-year-old weeds are sensitive to "Escudo" at the one- to four-leaf stage, perennial grasses at 15-20 cm, and one-year-old bilobe weeds at the four- to six-leaf stage. A double application at a lower dose is also effective. When applying two applications, the first application is done at the three-leaf stage, and the second application is applied to new weeds.

Expert opinion

The following factors affect the effectiveness of the product: the temperature during spraying should be between 15-25°C. Treatment should not be carried out at temperatures below 10°C or above 25°C. Rainfall within a couple of hours of spraying will not affect the effectiveness of the product. Do not spray crops that are wet from dew or rain.

Precautionary measures

When preparing the solution and spraying plants, wear gloves, goggles, and a respirator. Wear protective clothing. After working, wash your face and hands with soap. Wash off any solution that comes into contact with your skin. Rinse your eyes if the solution comes into contact with them.

How toxic is it and is there compatibility?

"Escudo" is classified as Class 3 toxicity (for humans and bees). It is recommended to use it mixed with the surfactant "Adju"; mixing improves the weed surface's wetting by the solution.

For corn, the herbicide can be combined with 2,4-D-based products, and for tomatoes and potatoes, with metribuzin-based herbicides. Do not mix Escudo with organophosphates, nor apply it before or after within two weeks.

Expiration date and storage conditions

"Escudo" can be stored for 3 years from the date of production. It should be kept in its original packaging, always with the lids closed. Storage conditions: dry, dark, and ventilated. The solution should only be stored for 1 day; it is best to use the entire volume on the day of preparation.

Ringoli canister

Escudo is an effective herbicide used to control weeds in corn, tomato, and potato crops. The product is applied once or twice, and is effective with low application rates and consumption. This makes it economical and convenient to use in both agriculture and home gardens.
