Description of the Raspberry Honey tomato, fruit characteristics, and pest control

The Raspberry Honey tomato is very popular among gardeners. Tomatoes are one of the most beloved vegetable crops in our country. Specialty stores offer hundreds of different varieties of this crop, and sometimes finding a tomato that meets all criteria can be difficult.

Let's take a look at a tomato variety that recently appeared on store shelves, with the delicious name Raspberry Honey.

Characteristics of the variety

Characteristics and description of the variety:

  1. The Raspberry Honey F1 variety was developed by breeders in our country a little over 10 years ago, and during this time the tomato has found its consumer.
  2. The plant is indeterminate and tall, some specimens exceeding 1.5 m in height.
  3. This early-ripening tomato variety is predominantly pink, more reminiscent of raspberries (sometimes red fruits grow). The fruits can be harvested as early as three months after planting.
  4. The variety is intended for cultivation both in greenhouses and open ground, but primarily in the southern regions.

Honey tomatoes

The fruits are round or heart-shaped, with no green spots at the base. The tomatoes are quite large: the first tomatoes weigh 750-800 g each, and some can reach 1.5 kg. Subsequent fruits weigh approximately 500-600 g, which is also quite good. On average, each Raspberry Honey tomato bush can yield at least 8 kg of fruit.

The manufacturer recommends planting no more than three plants per square meter in a greenhouse or open ground. This method can produce approximately 25 kg of vegetables from such a small area. The increased yield often results in fragile branches unable to support the weight and breaking, requiring additional timely staking.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

According to gardeners' reviews, the tomatoes are very tasty, sweet like raspberries and have a slightly honeyed flavor. The tomatoes have a smooth, thin skin on the outside, no soft core inside, and relatively few seeds.

Tomato seeds

Description of the Raspberry Honey F1 tomato variety and its advantages:

  • early ripening;
  • high-yielding;
  • tolerates drought well;
  • low number of seeds inside the fruit;
  • juicy fruits that taste a little like honey.

Disadvantages of the Raspberry Honey F1 variety: Susceptible to most diseases common to this vegetable crop, especially fusarium (a fungal disease that causes yellowing of leaves and pale veins, which subsequently leads to curling and death of the leaves, and ultimately, the death of the entire plant).

Sowing seeds

The main causes of this disease are: a change from rainy to hot weather with lower nighttime temperatures, excessive use of chemical fertilizers, poor planting practices, excess or insufficient moisture, and the presence of gray mold (round, water-soaked spots appear on the fruit, gradually expanding and eventually beginning to ooze a brownish liquid, while the leaves and stems become moldy). The disease manifests itself with the onset of cool and rainy weather.

Tomato sprouts

Certain pests can interfere with plant development, including melon aphids, thrips, and slugs. Zubr is a good pest control product for these insects, while slugs can be controlled by hand-picking, weed removal, and sand or lime application around the plants.

Tomatoes are not suitable for long-term transportation and storage.

The variety is not universal for home preparations: it is not suitable for making tomato drink due to its low juiciness.

Does not tolerate very wet soil.

Tomato fruits

It does not keep fresh for long, so farmers generally do not grow this variety, as it is not suitable for sale.

Raspberry Honey is a rather capricious variety for growing in garden plots, so gardeners who are just learning how to care for tomatoes should not experiment with this tomato.
