Description of the Russian tomato Raspberry Rhapsody and growing seedlings

Long before the new growing season, every gardener identifies the most profitable vegetable varieties. One of these is the Raspberry Rhapsody tomato. The plant produces its first fruits as early as 90 days after germination. It thrives in greenhouses and open ground. A significant drawback of this crop is the inability to transport produce over long distances.

A product of domestic breeders

This vegetable variety was developed by Russian farmers in 2013. The variety description indicates that the tomato is a standard type with underdeveloped lateral shoots. Therefore, the bushes can be planted compactly without worrying about shade from nearby neighbors. This greatly simplifies seedling care, which is especially important in the early stages, when lateral shoots begin to develop rapidly.

Round tomato

Raspberry Rhapsody does not require pinching or leaf breaking. But you will still have to tie it up due to the poorly developed root system and the fragility of the stems.

The bush reaches a maximum height of 60 cm. For a home greenhouse without specialized lighting, this is advantageous, as all plants receive their fair share of sunlight. The tomato's weight, with the first fruits weighing 300 g, is ideal.

As the second and subsequent levels ripen, their weight decreases slightly and remains at the level of 200-250 g. The variety is resistant to the destructive effects of fusarium.

Description of fruits:

  • Tomatoes have a flattened, round shape with strongly protruding ribs of fleshy pulp and 5-6 cotyledon chambers.
  • Dry matter content reaches 5%.
  • The ideal color range of tomatoes, reminiscent of the color of raspberries, makes it possible to preserve the fruits.
  • They are grown mainly for domestic use.
  • Raspberry Rhapsody is not suitable for mass production due to the insufficient shelf life of the fruit and its rapid rotting.

To obtain a high yield of tomatoes in frost-free soil, it is necessary to:

  • mulching the soil with rotted straw;
  • one-time fertilization with mineral and nitrogen fertilizers;
  • pest control: garden ants, aphids, snails;
  • timely watering.

Up to 15 kg of premium fruit can be harvested per square meter. Tomatoes are ideal for open-field cultivation in southern Russia. Greenhouses and hotbeds are ideal for growing Raspberry Rhapsody in central and northern latitudes.

Description of seeds

Advantages of the variety, rules for planting seedlings and disease control

Adherence to all cultivation guidelines will yield up to 5 kg of tomatoes per plant. The pyramidal planting pattern requires three plants per square meter. Feedback from those who have already tested the new variety over the past few years indicates that 15 kg of fruit from this area is a decent yield.

The main advantages of the plant include:

  • optimal size;
  • attractive appearance;
  • good yield;
  • friendly formation of ovaries and ripening of fruits;

Experts note the resistance of tomatoes to diseases.

Tomato seeds

Seeds are sown in late March or early April. After the shoots sprout and two true leaves appear, they are pricked out. In early June, when the risk of morning frost is minimal, the seedlings are planted in exposed soil.

A disadvantage of this crop is its sensitivity to soil conditions. Fertilizing should be done at least five times throughout the growing and fruiting period. Tomatoes also require adequate phosphorus and potassium in the soil.

They suffer tomatoes with blossom-end rot and brown spotTo combat rot, reduce nitrogen levels in the soil and increase calcium. Increasing soil moisture and treating damaged bushes with a calcium nitrate mixture can also produce good results.

Ripe tomatoes

To prevent spotting and treat diseased plants, it is necessary to:

  • reduce the watering level;
  • ventilate the greenhouse regularly;
  • maintain a constant temperature.

Tomatoes of this variety have found their niche in home-preserved produce for the winter. Immediately after ripening, they are used in refreshing salads, freshly squeezed juice, spicy ketchup, and vegetable stews. Their meaty consistency makes them suitable for jarring. The tomatoes from the first harvest are a bit too large for glass containers, but from the second harvest onward, they are ideal for jarring and barreling.

    I planted this variety of tomatoes for the first time, and the yield was quite good, but I'll be planting them again specifically for their flavor and aroma. They're delicious; we enjoyed them in salads with great pleasure.
