The product "Hom" is approved for use in both agricultural and personal use. It is used against fungal diseases on many vegetable and garden crops. Let's look at the product's composition, mode of action, and purpose, as well as its application rates for different crops and application instructions. What is included in the composition and dosage form
"Hom" is a copper-containing product whose active ingredient is copper oxychloride at a concentration of 861 g per kg. It is a wettable powder with a protective action that penetrates through contact. It is manufactured by Technoexport, a private farming company, in 20 g and 40 g sachets and in professional packaging—10 and 25 kg cardboard boxes—for agricultural use.
Operating principle
Copper oxychloride destroys pathogens at any stage of development. After spraying, the substance remains on the surface of plants, but reliably protects them from fungi. After treatment, potatoes are less susceptible to late blight and early blight, as well as Colorado potato beetles.
Purpose
"Hom" is used to treat tomatoes and potatoes against Alternaria wilt and late blight, and cucumbers against downy mildew and powdery mildew. Its spectrum of activity also extends to grape diseases such as mildew, black spot, and anthracnose. On shrubs and fruit trees, "Hom" is used against leaf curl, moniliosis, coccomycosis, scab, and clusterosporosis. The product also partially controls Colorado potato beetles, a pest found on potatoes.
Calculation of consumption and rules of use
The dosage and application rate of copper supplements will vary in different cases. The manufacturer's instructions for use provide recommended dosages.
Copper oxychloride treatment is done by spraying vegetables and the garden during the growing season. Treatments should be postponed during flowering. "Hom" is applied to plants only during the growing season; it is not used before bud break or after leaf fall, and the solution is not used as a soil drench.
To prepare the solution: First, dissolve the entire volume of "Hom" in a small amount of water, stir until completely dissolved, then add water until the solution is full. To enhance adhesion, you can add 0.5 cups of milk per 10 liters of water to the prepared solution.
Spray the plants immediately after preparation, thoroughly wetting the leaves on both sides. "Hom" works well in warm, dry weather. The protection period after treatment with copper oxychloride lasts up to two weeks. However, if it rains during this time, repeat the spraying.
Using Homa to spray your garden
In horticulture, a solution of 40 g of the product per 10 liters is used to treat fruit trees. 2-5 liters per tree. Plants should be treated in dry, windless weather. The leaves of affected trees should be evenly moistened. Do not use the solution if the air temperature has exceeded 30°C (96°F). The last spraying should be done no later than 20 days before fruit harvest.
Processing of ornamental crops and flowers
Roses and other garden flowers are treated against rust and spotting with a solution of 30-40 g per 10 liters. Use 20 liters per 100 square meters.
Protecting cucumbers
Cucumbers are sprayed for the first time in the spring to prevent downy mildew, followed by two more treatments spaced 1-1.5 weeks apart. Apply 3 liters of the resulting solution per 10 square meters of area. Cucumbers can be harvested within two days of spraying.
Copper oxychloride can not only act as a pathogen killer, but also as a fertilizer if plants are experiencing copper deficiency.
For trees
"Hom" is used not only for fruit plants but also for conifers. In the spring, before active growth begins, conifers are sprayed with a solution of 40 g per 10 liters combined with 250 ml of 30-B to prevent fungal diseases.
Fighting grape mildew
The product can be applied to vineyards up to six times per season, with a 1-1.5 week interval. A solution is prepared by mixing 40 g of powder per 10 liters of water, using 6-8 liters per 100 square meters of area.
Protecting tomatoes in greenhouses and open ground
To obtain a solution of the desired concentration, dilute "Hom" at a rate of 40 g of powder per 10 liters. Spray a maximum of four times per season, with a 1-1.5 week interval. Apply 1-1.5 liters of solution per 10 square meters of tomato beds. Harvesting can begin five days after application.
Potatoes are sprayed with the same concentration of solution up to five times per season, using 6-8 liters of the prepared solution per 100 square meters. The waiting period for this crop is 28 days.
Precautionary measures
"Hom" is not toxic to humans or bees, and is classified as a Class 3 toxicity product. Do not apply the product to crops near water bodies. Bee flight near treated crops and fields should be temporarily restricted. Plants can be treated from an airplane.
While treating plants with "Hom," do not smoke, eat, or drink. Do not use metal or food-grade utensils when preparing the fungicide solution.
In case of poisoning, although rare, take activated charcoal tablets at a rate of 1 tablet per 10 kg of body weight with at least 1 liter of water. After a 15-minute break, induce vomiting. If symptoms of poisoning are severe, consult a doctor.
Is compatibility possible?
"Hom" can be combined in a single solution with most fungicidal or insecticidal pesticides and growth stimulants. This allows for simultaneous treatment of plants against several diseases and protection against pests. Do not mix with alkaline products.
How to store it correctly and for how long
"Hom" has a shelf life of at least 3 years when stored properly. The powder should be stored in a dry, cool, dark place, in its original, tightly sealed packaging. Protect the product from water, especially. Fertilizers and other agrochemicals can be stored near the powder. Do not store water, food, medications, animal feed, or household products nearby.
Use the entire prepared solution on the day of preparation. After 24 hours of storage, it loses its effectiveness.
What to replace it with
In agricultural settings, Hom can be replaced with copper oxychloride-containing products: Pergado, Abiga-Peak, Tsikhom, Rapid Gold Plus, Oksikhom, Proton, Ordan, Kurzat, and Khloroshans. In private households, it can be replaced with Proton Extra, Kuprolux, Bronex, Homoxyl, Abiga-Peak, Ordan, and Kurzat.
The effective fungicide "Hom" is suitable for protecting vegetable, fruit, ornamental, and industrial crops from a range of fungal diseases. It is applied several times during the growing season, initially as a preventative measure, then as a treatment when signs of disease are detected. When used correctly, this copper-containing fungicide is safe for plants and soil and does not affect crop rotation.
