Herbicides help control weeds that choke crops and rob them of nutrients. While small-scale gardeners can control weeds manually, farmers cultivating large fields are forced to resort to chemicals. Fabian herbicide is selective and kills a wide range of weeds in soybean fields.
Composition and dosage form
This selective herbicide contains two active ingredients, which ensure its high effectiveness against annual and perennial weeds. Imazethapyr belongs to the imidazolinone class of chemicals and is present in the product at a concentration of 450 grams per kilogram. The second active ingredient, chlorimuron-ethyl, belongs to the sulfonylurea class and contains 150 grams per kilogram.
Fabian is produced by the Russian company August in the form of water-dispersible granules. It is packaged in 1 kg bottles.
What is the substance intended for?
The systemic herbicide "Fabian" is specifically designed to protect soybean crops from dicotyledonous annual grasses and some perennial weeds. The chemical is not used in fields planted with other crops. When used correctly, one treatment per season is sufficient to control weeds.
Operating principle
The mechanism of action of this systemic combination herbicide is based on two active components. After spraying, imazethapyr penetrates the foliage and root system of weeds within a few hours, then accumulates at the growth points, inhibiting weed growth. Furthermore, the active ingredient inhibits protein production, thereby disrupting weed cell division and growth.

Chlorimuron-ethyl belongs to a group of acetolactate synthase inhibitors. Its effect on weed tissue causes weed growth to cease within 2-3 hours of treatment.
How quickly does it work and how does it manifest itself?
The speed of action of an herbicide depends directly on the sensitivity of the weeds, weather conditions, and compliance with the application instructions. The first symptoms may not be visible for several days, but within 3-4 hours, the weeds stop depleting the crop's nutrients and stop growing.

How long does the effect last?
Typically, one field treatment per season is sufficient to protect soybean crops from weeds. However, the duration of the protective effect depends on the severity of the weed infestation and the weed's development stage at the time of application. The duration of the effect is also influenced by the weather and climate conditions of the growing region and the susceptibility of the weeds. On average, the effect lasts from 60 to 90 days.
Advantages of the drug
Farmers who have already tested the herbicide's performance on their soybean fields have identified several key advantages of the chemical that distinguish it from other similar products.

They listed the following points as advantages of Fabian:
- convenient formulation and low herbicide consumption;
- affordable cost of the drug;
- the rate of penetration of active substances into the tissues of contaminants;
- a wide range of weeds against which the chemical agent is effective;
- long-lasting protective effect after treatment;
- absence of weed addiction to the active ingredients of the drug;
- a combined herbicide composition that allows you to destroy both annual and perennial grasses;
- the possibility of using the chemical both before weed emergence and during their growing season;
- no harm to cultivated plants due to selectivity of action.
The only drawback that farmers note is that the drug can only be used in fields where soybeans are planted.
Phytotoxicity level, what crops it is tolerant to
No cases of phytotoxicity have been identified after using the herbicide; the preparation is tolerant to cultivated plants and has a destructive effect only on weeds.

Is there resistance?
If you follow the manufacturer's recommendations specified in the instructions and do not exceed the application rate of the preparation, weeds will not become accustomed to the active ingredients of the herbicide.
Calculation of consumption
Since the product is used on soybean fields, the application rate in the instructions is specified only for this crop. 100 grams of herbicide granules are required per hectare of field, from which a working solution is prepared. To spray a hectare of crops, 300 liters of liquid are used.

How to prepare a working mixture
Prepare the field treatment solution immediately before use. Fill the sprayer tank halfway with water and add the recommended dose of herbicide granules. Turn on the agitator and wait until the herbicide dissolves completely. Then add the remaining water and thoroughly mix the solution again.
Instructions for use
The manufacturer's instructions for use with the herbicide indicate that the best time for application is dry, windless weather with temperatures between 10 and 25 degrees Celsius. Also, when spraying, consider the weed's development stage. Once they have formed 4 to 6 leaves, they become less sensitive to the chemical's effects.
Before treating the field, it's important to complete all necessary agricultural work, such as loosening and cultivating. The herbicide forms a protective barrier on the soil surface, preventing new weeds from sprouting, and it's important to maintain this barrier for three weeks.

Precautionary measures
Since Fabian belongs to toxicity class 2, safety precautions must be followed when working with it. Spraying should be done while wearing full-body work clothes and rubber boots. Gloves and a respirator should also be worn to prevent inhalation of chemical vapors.
After finishing work, the sprayer tank is washed with detergent, and all clothing is laundered. The farmer should shower and wash his face and hands.
Is there compatibility?
The herbicide should not be used with organophosphorus insecticides. Fabian is compatible with chemicals such as Korsar and Miura. Before using these products in tank mixtures, a chemical compatibility test should be performed.

Storage terms and conditions
The herbicide's shelf life is 5 years from the date of manufacture. Due to its high toxicity, the chemical should be stored in a separate room, out of reach of children and animals. The recommended storage temperature is 0 to 28 degrees Celsius.
Analogues
There is no complete analogue of this herbicide in terms of composition; if necessary, it can be replaced with a product with a similar effect, for example, Bazagran.
