For any agricultural crop, and especially peppers, timely planting is crucial. Since this crop is frost-sensitive, it can die early if there's insufficient warmth. It's important to understand when planting pepper seedlings in 2025 will ensure a good harvest. Choosing the planting time carefully is crucial, as overripe peppers will also not produce the desired results.
What influences planting times?
The planting time for a crop like peppers can be affected by climate conditions and the phases of the moon. Therefore, before planting seedlings, it's worth consulting a lunar calendar and choosing the most suitable day.
In the southern part of the country, it's best to start planting seedlings in March. In the northern part, this can be done as early as late January, continuing into early February. Adequate light availability also influences how well the seedlings will germinate.
When to plant peppers in open ground depending on the region
When sowing this crop, it's important to consider your region. Some places sow this crop earlier, while others do so later, as weather conditions vary from region to region. It's best to base your seedlings on your local area.

Southern regions
In southern regions of Russia, this crop can be planted in open beds as early as April, continuing through mid-May, as the climate there is mild and warm. In this case, sowing the seeds can take place from the twenties of February through the first half of March.
Central Russia and the Moscow region
In Moscow and the Moscow region, early or mid-season varieties are most often planted. This should be done around March 15th. The latest varieties in these regions should be planted by February 20th. Speaking of planting outdoors, seedlings can be transplanted to their permanent locations from late April to late May.

Leningrad Oblast
In the Leningrad Region, crops are planted starting on February 25th, beginning during the first week of March. However, late-season varieties should be planted during the first few days of February.
Siberia and the Urals
The Urals and Siberia have a rather unstable climate, so it's best to plant seedlings between February 25th and March 10th. In this case, it's best to choose a mid-season variety. These seedlings have a growing season of up to 130 days. The following varieties are recommended:
- Siberian;
- The firstborn of Siberia;
- Kolobok.

They should be grown indoors. A greenhouse is a good choice for this purpose. Considering that night frosts can return until the first week of June, peppers should be planted outdoors between June 8th and 15th. The soil will freeze before then, thereby damaging the future crop.
How to independently calculate the timing of sowing and planting seedlings
To determine the best time to plant, you can do some calculations yourself. Early peppers grow for about sixty days. You can add another six days to this period. This time is needed for the seeds to germinate. Therefore, you can expect seedlings to emerge on the 66th day. This is when you should plant the seedlings in the ground.

To determine the initial planting time, count 66 days from the intended or planned planting date. This calculated date should also be checked against the lunar calendar. Keep in mind that any manipulation of peppers is not recommended during a full moon or when the new moon is waxing.
We take into account the growing conditions: a greenhouse or an open area
Peppers have a long growing season, so it's recommended to plant them as early as possible.
If the plant is planned to be grown in a greenhouse, then the seeds can be planted in January.
Any planting should be completed in April, especially in greenhouses. Seedlings should be planted in the ground when they reach 70 days of age. Seedlings of late-ripening varieties can be planted at 75 days.

According to the manufacturers' recommendations
A good and abundant pepper harvest will be achieved if the crop is provided with a warm, favorable climate and as much light as possible when planting seedlings. This can be difficult to achieve for those living in northern regions, where daylight hours are shorter and the weather is still cool. Therefore, growers recommend planting one day in favorable conditions as much as three days in cold and harsh climates.
Most often, growers recommend starting planting on February 5th. Then, the harvest can be obtained towards the end of June. This recommendation applies to late-season varieties, while early varieties can be sown a little later, in March.

Depending on the variety
To correctly calculate the sowing and seedling dates, you need to pay attention to the pepper variety. For example, hot peppers have a shorter growing season than sweet varieties. This information can be found on the back of the seed packaging, which typically indicates the period from germination to ripe fruit.
Early
The earliest varieties of this crop begin bearing fruit 120 days after the shoots emerge. For hot peppers, this process begins as early as 105 days. This variety is best planted in March, when daylight hours are longer and the plant has sufficient warmth.

Mid-season varieties
Medium-sized pepper varieties begin to sprout approximately 130 days after the seeds have sprouted. Hot pepper varieties, however, take 115-125 days to sprout.
Late-ripening crops
If we're talking about late peppers, they begin to bear fruit 140 days after germination. This should be taken into account if planting is planned for the 20th of March. In this case, the seedlings won't appear until the end of April, extending into May, so the peppers won't have time to ripen.

When to sow pepper seedlings according to the lunar calendar in 2025
The lunar calendar can help you choose the most suitable day for planting this plant. The lunar phase and zodiac sign it enters determine the likelihood of a good harvest.
Favorable days for planting and sowing
The most favorable time for planting peppers is February, particularly the first through third, the 7th and 8th, the 11th and 13th, the 16th and 17th, and the 24th and 25th. In addition to these dates, you can also transplant on the 20th, 22nd, and 28th. On the 12th and 13th of February, if the seeds have already been planted, leave them alone. Avoid loosening the soil, as this can damage the seedlings.
If you want a bountiful harvest, you need to plant the seedlings so that they sprout by February 15th, as February 16th and 17th are favorable periods for the sprouts to gain even more strength.
What days are not recommended for planting?
Avoid planting this crop during the full moon and new moon. Dates such as February 4th-6th and February 19th are considered unsuitable. The worst time is February 3rd, from 3:00 PM through February 5th.
January isn't ideal for planting, especially the fifth and seventh. As for March, avoid planting between the fifth and seventh, as well as on March 21st.
